KUWAIT CITY, Dec 5, (KUNA): Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) affirmed that the construction and building materials produced locally are of good quality compared to the imported items, revealing that this was confirmed in a laboratory test of the materials used for government’s construction projects.

This information was revealed by the Director General of PAHW Eng. Bader Al-Waqyan on the sideline of the inauguration of the Sixth Construction and Manufacturing Exhibition on Monday, December 5.

He declared that all government agencies are supporting and encouraging local products by prioritizing them in purchases and tenders, stressing that this policy is in line with the decisions of Ministry of Commerce and Industry regarding the protection of local products.

During a tour of the exhibition, Eng. Al-Waqyan urged local manufacturers to increase production capacity to meet the demands of current and future construction projects of the state.

He said local products are sold at competitive prices, which are appropriate compared to the international market price, indicating that the Kuwaiti government subsidizes some local products such that their prices are cheaper than the imported ones.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Ali Thunyan Al-Ghanim expressed delight about the vision of the local companies that are participating in the exhibition.

He affirmed that KCCI lends support to local manufacturers to shift from sole reliance on oil for revenues.

Al-Ghanim acknowledged the improvement of local products, considering the quality of metal and other construction materials displayed in the exhibition, and commended the commitment to using solar energy as well as other excellent products.

He stressed that this was an indication of the support the products enjoy from government and citizens, hoping for an increase in the introduction of local products in the market to the level of becoming a national pride.
