KUWAIT CITY, March 11, (KUNA): The Kuwaiti Government has honored all international obligations toward women, says Chairperson of the Kuwaiti Woman Affairs Committee Sheikha Latifa Al-Fahad Al-Salem Al-Sabah. Sheikha Latifa made the statement upon her departure to New York — along with an accompanying committee delegation — to take part in the 61st session of the UN’s Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), due to kick off later today and proceed till March 26th.
The Government of the State of Kuwait is exerting enormous efforts to bolster women’s role and furnish this gender of the society with health and medical care as well as securing an honorable living for them, Sheikh Latifa has affirmed. The Kuwaiti women, for their part, have proven to be capable of shouldering responsibilities and playing active roles in the Kuwaiti community, as well as being partners in decision making. The female citizens aspire to make more accomplishments such as stopping all forms of domestic violence, says Sheikha Latifa Al-Fahad in her departure statement. She is scheduled to address the international commission about Kuwait’s experience in supporting the women, such as formation of a special tribunal for family affairs. Moreover, she will urge for halting violence against the women in troubled Arab countries. The State of Kuwait has been chosen as member of the commission with a four-year term.
The State of Kuwait is eager to find a solution to end Yemen’s crisis as soon as possible, Assistant Foreign Minister for Development and International Cooperation Af- College of Life Sciences at Kuwait University recently inaugurated the CLS Day Exhibition in the presence of the Acting Dean Prof Qasim Saleh, Vice-Dean for Academic Affairs Dr Abdulrahman Ahmad, Dr Mohammad Al-Shawaf from Environmental Technology Department and several members of the college staff. Al-Sabeeh made the statement following the inauguration of a workshop on implementing recommendations on human rights.
In reply to a question on UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmad’s visit to Kuwait on Sunday, Al-Sabeeh said the visit is part of the envoy’s endeavors aiming to reach convergence of views amongst Yemen’s conflicting parties.
The envoy tries to persuade the conflicting parties so as to sit at the negotiating table and start direct negotiations to overcome the crisis, Al-Sabeeh added.
He reiterated Kuwait’s keenness on alleviating humanitarian suffering in Yemen, taking into consideration UN Secretary General’s final call for the necessity of aiding
Yemen and other countries to avoid famine.
On Sunday, First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah met with Ould Cheikh Ahmad.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed latest developments in Yemen and international efforts aiming to find a comprehensive political solution to the crisis in that Arab countries.
Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Muhammad Al-Fares toured Umm Mubshir Al-Ansari Girls Secondary School in Taima area in the aftermath of the minor fire that engulfed a classroom few days ago, says Al-Seyassah.
On his tour, Dr Al-Fares listened to detailed presentation by the
school principal, Salwa Al-Azmi, on the emergency evacuation procedures followed by the school during the incident by which they avoided eminent danger.
She praised the efforts of the fire team and their quick response to the call, and conducting precautionary evacuation.
It is noteworthy, a minor fire broke out in the girl’s school in Al-Jahra zone two days ago, which resulted in mild injuries, and Dr AlFares has since ordered immediate repair of the affected classroom.
Report indicated the fire gutted a classroom of the school, and the billow of smoke caused five students breathing difficulty, and they were treated in a nearby hospital.
The Ministry of Education official blames an electrical glitch for the fire, which he says, has been dealt with.
