KUWAIT CITY, March 27: The Domestic Workers Recruitment Company will go into operation in August 2017, says the Rapporteur of Response to the Amiri Address Committee, MP Osama AlShaheen.

Speaking to reporters, after the committee meeting Monday AlShaheen said the meeting was chaired by head of the committee MP Khalil Abul.

He added, during the meeting he submitted queries concerning the establishment of this company and was happy to note it will contribute to cut the cost of hiring domestic workers in the country.

He explained a number of MPs have presented bills to increase the warranty period to two years to protect the interests of the sponsor. A request has also been submitted to assign the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor to supervise and monitor the company.

He added, he and some MPs have presented a bill on what he called ‘conflict of interest’ to prevent any person working at the Ministry of Social Affairs to be part of this company.

Al-Shaheen noted the committee has agreed to deviate from the tradition of preparing a survey and statistics on issues addressed by MPs in response to the Amiri Address.

In another development, MP Safa’a Al-Hashem stressed on the need to grill the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah

on the cancellation of the Public Authority for Transport.

In a press statement Monday, AlHashem disclosed the Amiri Diwan has pulled out from the Ministry of Public Works projects citing lack of confidence.

On the citizenship issue, Al-Hashem stated she has no objection if the citizenship is withdrawn by the government provided this is done under the watchful eye of the judiciary.

Al-Hashem also noted Kuwaiti teachers should be trained by the Ministry of Education and said private lessons is the best proof that expatriate teachers are not dedicated to the betterment of the citizen. Moreover, this puts a strain on the citizen’s pocket.
