KRCS urges Kuwaitis to donate more to ease suffering of Yemenis

Society distribute­s purchasing vouchers for needy families

KUWAIT CITY, March 27, (KUNA): Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Monday continued for the second consecutiv­e day its campaign to collect donations for people affected by the ongoing war in Yemen.

This campaign comes in support of Yemen to tackle the worst hunger crisis in the world due the current war in this country according to a recent report by the Internatio­nal Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Head of the Public Relations Department at KRCS Khaled Al-Zaid said.

Earlier this month, the UN announced that more than 20 million people were facing famine in Somalia, Yemen, South Sudan and north-east Nigeria. He described the response to the campaign as “good”, calling on Kuwaitis to increase their donattion, noting that the campaign will end this Wednesday but will continue online for a month.

He said the primary aim of this campaign is collecting initially 250,000 Kuwaiti dinars (KD) to purchase medical equipment and food items.

Al-Zaid added that the lack of basic needs results in the death of a child every 10 minutes. The society will receive cash and Knet donations from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, as well as online donations through KRCS’ website, he noted.

The two-year conflict has caused drastic changes to life conditions of 18 million Yemenis.

Meanwhile, Kuwait Red Crescent Society has distribute­d in cooperatio­n with the Kuwait Awqaf Public Foundation purchasing vounchers for nearly 2,000 needy families in Kuwait.

Director of the Local Aid Department in the KRCS Maryam Al-Adasani stressed to KUNA on Monday the society’s keenness to support the needy families in the country.

Al-Adsani said that the KRCS has distribute­d the purchasing vouchers to help the needy families in facing the burdens and responsibi­lities of life.

She explained that the list of beneficiar­ies and needy families has been identified as well as the value of the vouchers based on a mechanism set by the KRCS.

She praised efforts and cooperatio­n of the Kuwait Awqf Public Foundation in this respect.
