Labor minister resolves problem of Indian workers not paid by firm

KUWAIT CITY, March 27: Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Economic Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh disclosed the plan of Kuwaiti government to establish a national leadership school, in collaborat­ion with France, for enhancing training and governance activities.

The minister said this recently at the residence of French Ambassador to Kuwait Christian Nakhla who honored her with the “Order of Garter” (The Knight).

She affirmed that the ministry has resolved the problem related to non-payment of salaries to workers of a cleaning company by liquidatin­g the company’s guarantee to pay the workers, adding that the company’s file has been suspended.

Al-Sabeeh explained that the ministry coordinate­d with the Indian Embassy to implement legal means for facilitati­ng the salary payment and stood firm against the company. All companies and government agencies that have cleaning contracts with the company were contacted to convert amounts payable to the company for payment of two-month salaries owing the workers.

She assured that the ministry will ensure the image of Kuwait is protected by giving everybody their rights, stressing that the need to be humanitari­an conscious is of significan­ce to the ministry.

The minister affirmed that coordinati­on with Indian Embassy will continue whereby the embassy will notify the ministry at the start of every month if workers are not paid salaries for the previous month.

She expressed delight and pride over being the first Kuwaiti woman to be honored in this manner by French President, insisting that she would not have received such an award without the cooperatio­n and support of employees of all levels in various affiliated department­s.

Al-Sabeeh dedicated the award to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, His Highness the PM Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, members of her family, all Kuwaiti women and the entire citizens of Kuwait.

She eulogized the cordial relations shared between Kuwait and France, hoping that it continues to blossom in all aspects, especially in the area of developmen­t.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Nakhla explained that the minister served the country in various leadership capacities for 20 years since 1994 when she was appointed as Director of Informatio­n Center in the Citizens’ Complaints Submission and Follow-up Office. She later rose to become a consultant in the Public Authority for Civil Informatio­n, which is equivalent to Ministry of Public Service in France.

He painstakin­gly tabled the profession­al life of the minister to the extent that the minister herself exclaimed saying, “My God, he has presented the entire history!”
