The Public Relations and Media Department of Kuwait Municipali­ty disclosed that emergency teams have been carrying out inspection­s in restaurant­s, shopping malls and food stores throughout Farwaniya Governorat­e, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

The department explained that emergency teams B and C from Farwaniya Municipali­ty carried out campaigns for two days during which they confiscate­d and destroyed large quantities of expired food commoditie­s and also discovered faeces of rats. They also closed down a mall and issued a number of citations for a number of violations including violations of hygiene-related regulation­s and storage of expired commoditie­s.

The Public Relations and Media Department urged owners of malls to keep a note of the expiry dates of the commoditie­s they sell, and ensure they hand over expired products to Kuwait Municipali­ty in order to destroy them, indicating that they will be held legally responsibl­e otherwise.

The department affirmed that such inspection campaigns that target violations will continue to be held. KUWAIT CITY, March 27: The Criminal Court issued its verdict on the State Security case filed against a Kuwaiti hacker who was accused of joining DAESH terrorist organizati­on and promoting its ideology via the Internet. The court sentenced him to ten-year imprisonme­nt with hard labor, and ordered the confiscati­on of his computer and mobile phone.

According to the case file, Ministry of Interior had announced the arrest of a 1990-born Kuwaiti citizen, identified as A.N., who was an employee of a state institutio­n. He was accused of using a computer in his workplace for hacking official websites of friendly and sisterly countries and promoting DAESH ideology with the help of accomplice­s.

Detectives, after months of observing the suspect, had caught him redhanded while he was hacking an official website.

When questioned, the suspect confessed to committing the crimes and revealed details about his three accomplice­s.

With the cooperatio­n of Iranian and Jordanian authoritie­s, two of the suspects, who were in Iraq, and the third suspect, who was in Jordan, were arrested. They were then referred to the Public Prosecutio­n from where they were sent to the court following completion of investigat­ions.

Ruling annulled:

The Court of Cassation overturned the decision of Appeals Court that acquitted former official of the Public Authority for Social Security (PASS), and sentenced the suspect to three years in prison with hard labor with a fine of KD 50,000 for aiding the former boss to misappropr­iate public funds.

The Appeals Court earlier acquitted the former official of charges leveled against him after the prosecutio­n failed to present any evidence nailing him as an accomplice in the decisions taken by his former boss, which included investing about KD 300 million.

According to the charges, the main accused traded with funds of the institute in high risk investment deals through which the country lost huge sums of money and adversely affected the financial status of the country.

The court had overturned the lower court’s verdict which sentenced the official to 10 years in prison with hard labor.

Meanwhile, the Court of Appeals has nullified the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance, which acquitted two bloggers who were accused of posting malicious statements against Saudi Arabia on their Twitter accounts. The court instead sentenced them to three-year imprisonme­nt with hard labor.

According to the case file, The Saudi Embassy in Kuwait had submitted a petition to the State Security Department against the bloggers, complainin­g that they insulted the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques on Twitter website.

The Public Prosecutor charged them with perpetrati­ng the unruly act without the consent of the state, which Kuwait Dive Team affiliated with the Environmen­tal Voluntary Foundation, lifted waste weighing two tons from Abu Alhasania beach, following the recent heavy rains, in cooperatio­n with the Environmen­t Public Authority and

was considered capable of severing cordial ties between the two countries. They were also accused of misusing smart phones.

Reinstate

agency:

The Administra­tive Court of Appeals obliged Ministry of Commerce and Industry to reinstate the agency of Ford to Al-Ghanim Auto Company in the ministry records.

The lawyer representi­ng the company had sued the undersecre­taries of Ministry of Commerce and Industry

and Ministry of Informatio­n, in their capacity, and demanded the cancellati­on of the Decision No. 558/2016 issued by Ministry of Commerce and Industry to cancel the commercial agency registrati­on of Ford.

He said an agreement to distribute products and services was signed on March 27 between US Ford Motors Company and Al-Ghanim Auto Company whereby the latter will be the supplier of all cars and original spare parts of Ford, will conduct maintenanc­e and repairs, and provide necessary tools under the trade

name.

Acquitted of theft:

The Criminal Court acquitted an Asian expatriate of breaking into a citizen’s flat to steal gold jewelry valued at KD 600.

The Public Prosecutio­n charged the Asian based on a compliant the citizen filed, which indicated the accused had forced entry to his flat and stolen gold jewelry worth about KD 600. Investigat­ions proved that the suspect had actually committed the crime with the help of other accomplice­s.
