FOCP offers full support for GCC cancer awareness
Health authorities urged to expand activities in field of ‘research’

KUWAIT CITY, April 4: The Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) Organization, during the First Combined Gulf Cancer Conference, announced its full support for the recommendations resultant from the conference, especially after the participants stressed the importance of combining awareness efforts for fighting cancer in the GCC countries.
According to a press release, FOCP called for unification of strategy to include every country in the area, as well as drawing up a general framework for joint work, and motivating academic establishments and health authorities to expand their activities in the field of scientific research in order to find best possible ways for treating and preventing cancer.
The two-day conference with the tagline “Awareness Strategy: Reality and Ambition” was held on April 2-3 in Kuwait City in which several organizations and establishments involved in fighting cancer in the GCC countries participated.
The conference also witnessed participation of leading oncologists, psychologists, social workers and specialists in the fields of health care, education, nutrition and media as well as representatives of non-profit organizations and relevant government institutions in the field of education.
The FOCP delegation in the conference included Board Director of the organization Sawsan Jafar, Secretary General of the organization Dr Sawsan Al-Madhi and Program Executive Haya Mare’e.
The conference presented evidencebased information concerning the role of awareness in cancer incidence and survival rates.
It highlighted the importance of exchanging experiences with global, regional and local organizations in the development of cancer awareness and prevention strategies.
The conference also highlighted the role of the government, non-government and private sectors in raising awareness in this regard for the general public, and providing all types of care with the aim of improving cancer patients’ quality of life.
The conference witnessed distribution of academic work documents which expansively detailed the latest global achievements in the aspect of combating cancer.

Cancer Patients (FOCP), it is a non-profit charity organization founded in September 1999 in Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates.
Its objective is to create awareness about the six early detectable cancers namely breast cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, colorectal cancer, and skin cancer.
Besides its awareness mission, FOCP is committed to helping cancer patients and their families get through the long and arduous journey of cancer treatment.
Since its inception, FOCP has provided moral and financial support to over 3,700 patients and their families in the United Arab Emirates, irrespective of their nationality, gender, age, religion or ethnicity.
