Kuwaiti FM, Mogherini discuss issues

EU High Representa­tive extols Kuwait’s role

BRUSSELS, April 5, (KUNA): Discussing regional and internatio­nal issues of common concern was the focus of a meeting between Kuwaiti First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and EU High Representa­tive Federica Mogherini Tuesday.

The meeting was held in the Belgian capital, Brussels, which hosts “Conference on Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region” Wednesday.

The conference is co-chaired by Kuwait, Germany, the United Kingdom, Norway, Qatar and the European Union, with participat­ion of 70 countries and internatio­nal organizati­ons.

During the meeting earlier today, the Kuwaiti top diplomat and EU representa­tive reviewed the conference’s agenda.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled expressed Kuwait’s welcome of holding the conference, lauding attention of EU member states to alleviate suffering of the Syrian people.

He stressed the importance of internatio­nally concerted efforts to find a comprehens­ive political and permanent solution to the Syrian crisis.

For her part, Mogherini has extolled Kuwait’s role and endeavors to find peaceful solutions to the region’s crises.

Assistant Foreign Ministry for First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister’s office affairs director Ambassador Sheikh Dr Ahmad Nasser AlMohammad Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s Ambassador to Belgium and head of its mission to the EU and NATO Jassim Al-Bedaiwi and a number of senior officials at the ministry were present in the meeting.
