Kuwait’s participation realizes positive outcome
136th IPU Assembly concludes its meetings
KUWAIT CITY, April 5, (KUNA): Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Parliamentary Caucus MP Rakan Al-Nesf on Wednesday said that participating in the 136th InterParliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly has realized positive outcome.
The 136th IPU Assembly wrapped its meetings in Dhaka, Bangladesh, today.
It was an achievement for Kuwait realized by the National Assembly,” the Kuwaiti parliament media and public relations sector quoted Al-Nesf as saying in a statement.
Al-Nesf who led the Kuwaiti Parliamentary Caucus to the Dhaka meetings, stressed the significance of the two posts won by members of the delegation, in the IPU’s Forum of Young Parliamentarians and the Executive Committee of the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (ASGP).
National Assembly’s Secretary General Allam Al-Kandari is the first MP from the Gulf region to be awarded membership of the ASGP since it was established.
Al-Nesf stressed the efforts by the Kuwaiti at the international parliamentary gathering, serving the interests of the State of Kuwait and the National Assembly. He emphasized the crystalclear unwavering stance by the Kuwaiti parliament in support of the Palestinian cause, saying they had exerted hard efforts to gain more backing to the issue.
On his part, caucus secretary, Dr Odah Al-Ruwaiee, said that participation in the 136th IPU Assembly was “successful”, and appreciated Bangladesh efforts and good organization of the assembly.
Up to 600 parliamentarians from around the globe attended the assembly, offering the Kuwaiti MPs a good opportunity to seize further support to the Arab and Islamic causes, especially the Palestinian issue.
Treasurer of the Kuwaiti parliamentary caucus, MP Dr. Walid Al-Tabtabaei, said the taking part the IPU assembly was “effective”, both in the discussions of IPU’s four outstanding committees and the coordination meetings of the Gulf, Islamic, Arab and Asian groups.
He referred to meetings held on the sidelines of the IPU assembly for boosting bilateral ties between Kuwait and other member states.
