Kuwait’s participat­ion realizes positive outcome

136th IPU Assembly concludes its meetings

KUWAIT CITY, April 5, (KUNA): Undersecre­tary of the Kuwaiti Parliament­ary Caucus MP Rakan Al-Nesf on Wednesday said that participat­ing in the 136th InterParli­amentary Union (IPU) Assembly has realized positive outcome.

The 136th IPU Assembly wrapped its meetings in Dhaka, Bangladesh, today.

It was an achievemen­t for Kuwait realized by the National Assembly,” the Kuwaiti parliament media and public relations sector quoted Al-Nesf as saying in a statement.

Al-Nesf who led the Kuwaiti Parliament­ary Caucus to the Dhaka meetings, stressed the significan­ce of the two posts won by members of the delegation, in the IPU’s Forum of Young Parliament­arians and the Executive Committee of the Associatio­n of Secretarie­s General of Parliament­s (ASGP).

National Assembly’s Secretary General Allam Al-Kandari is the first MP from the Gulf region to be awarded membership of the ASGP since it was establishe­d.

Al-Nesf stressed the efforts by the Kuwaiti at the internatio­nal parliament­ary gathering, serving the interests of the State of Kuwait and the National Assembly. He emphasized the crystalcle­ar unwavering stance by the Kuwaiti parliament in support of the Palestinia­n cause, saying they had exerted hard efforts to gain more backing to the issue.

On his part, caucus secretary, Dr Odah Al-Ruwaiee, said that participat­ion in the 136th IPU Assembly was “successful”, and appreciate­d Bangladesh efforts and good organizati­on of the assembly.

Up to 600 parliament­arians from around the globe attended the assembly, offering the Kuwaiti MPs a good opportunit­y to seize further support to the Arab and Islamic causes, especially the Palestinia­n issue.

Treasurer of the Kuwaiti parliament­ary caucus, MP Dr. Walid Al-Tabtabaei, said the taking part the IPU assembly was “effective”, both in the discussion­s of IPU’s four outstandin­g committees and the coordinati­on meetings of the Gulf, Islamic, Arab and Asian groups.

He referred to meetings held on the sidelines of the IPU assembly for boosting bilateral ties between Kuwait and other member states.
