‘ALC serves Arab workers, business owners & developmen­t’

Kuwaiti labour minister addresses concluding session of confab in Cairo

CAIRO, April 12, (KUNA): Kuwait’s Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Hind Barrak Al-Sabeeh on Wednesday stressed the importance of the Arab Labor Conference (ALC) for intensifyi­ng the efforts of all Arab countries to serve workers, business owners and the entire process of developmen­t.

Addressing the concluding session of the 44th ALC held in Cairo, Al-Sabeeh, who doubles as Minister of State for Economic Affairs, said that boosting women’s role in sustainabl­e developmen­t was a major topic addressed by the discussion­s.

The second item on the conference agenda addressed entreprene­urship and how to open the door for projects by youth or new entreprene­urs, the minister said.

The Kuwaiti National Assembly (Parliament) has approved law amendments with to facilitate the business environmen­t for new entreprene­urs.

Participan­ts in the 44th ALC, held under patronage of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi, also discussed vocational training and the impact on boosting awareness and workers’ qualificat­ion for the sake of curbing unemployme­nt rates, Al-Sabeeh added.

On his part, Director General of the Arab Labor Organizati­on (ALO) Fayez Al-Mutairi, told KUNA that the conference reaffirmed the Arab unity at the face of challenges facing the nation, with unemployme­nt on top.

AL-Mutairi lauded the success of the conference, reiteratin­g that the ALO is committed to all the recommenda­tions in the final statement.

Meanwhile, Employee Affairs Committee at the Ministry of Social Affairs appointed two directors and head of social developmen­t sector, reports Al-Anba daily.

The daily quoting sources added the committee appointed Dr Mariam Al-Azmi as the Director of Women and Child Affairs, Nadia Al-Azmi as the Director of Social Developmen­t, and Anfa’al Al-Mowail as Head of Social Research in Social Developmen­t Sector.
