KUWAIT CITY, April 12: Moral Guidance Unit of the General Security Department arrested a two-member Ugandan gang for trafficking in humans.
The gang is accused of luring and recruiting girls from Sierra Leone to work in Kuwait as housemaids after pledging to give them lucrative jobs in hotels, restaurants and other establishments with salaries ranging from 600-700 dollars a month, only to end up as domestic workers with KD 80 salaries.
A security source said concerned authorities received information about the activities of a two-man gang deeply involved in human trafficking, which smuggled girls from Sierra Leone through Guinea via road.
Apparently, the suspects managed to evade immigration by convincing Guinean authorities that the girls are headed for Senegal. They are held in a house for one week pending their transfer to the agency in Kuwait, and forced to work inside houses as maids.
The main suspect with his partner was arrested in Salmiya area in possession of recruitment applications, tickets and bank documents, alongside two housemaids from Sierra Leone. They were referred to concerned authorities for necessary action.
