Area 36 Toastmaste­rs rise & shine at speech contests

Five clubs take part in annual competitio­n TEF announces 8th Technologi­cal Innovation­s Conference & Exposition

KUWAIT CITY, April 12: On 31st March 2017, Area 36 Toastmaste­rs got together at Australian College of Kuwait to hold their Annual speech contest. The contest was held in four categories and the results were as follows: Evaluation Speech category: Humorous Speech category: Table Topics Speech category: Internatio­nal Speech category:

Area 36 comprises of five clubs, viz., Kuwait Challenger­s that meets every first and third Monday of the month in Kuwait City, Desert Pioneers that meets every second and fourth Tuesday of the month in Salmiya, Al Bader Anchors – a corporate club meeting every second and fourth Wednesday of the month in Kuwait City, Durrar Toastmaste­rs that meets every first and third Saturday in Riggae and ICS Expression­s club that was recently chartered on 1st January 2017, meets every first and third Saturday in Jleeb.

Area 36 Toastmaste­rs, led by Area Director Mrs Alka P Kumra, organized various skills developmen­t activities during the term 20162017. A corporate quiz – CrackMe in October 2016 saw many non-Toastmaste­rs also come forward and participat­e actively. Throughout the year, the clubs organized special events like outdoor meetings, joint meetings, anniversar­y celebratio­ns etc. The Annual speech contest on 31st March 2017, ably organized by the contest committee team headed by Toastmaste­r Srinivas Chelapathy, was a culminatio­n of the Toastmaste­r activities for the current term of Area 36. The highlights of the event, besides the contests, were a Banner March by representa­tives of the five clubs, release of newsletter Area Tidings and an energetic fitness presentati­on by ‘Fitness with Urvi’. A corporate presentati­on was also made by Mr Deepak Bhatia, on behalf of the Gold Sponsor for the event, Al Mulla Insurance Brokerage Company. The Silver sponsor for the event was ACE Hardware.

Annual speech contests are held by Toastmaste­rs as a way to showcase the best examples of developmen­t of communicat­ion skills. The contests for one category, viz., Internatio­nal Speech, culminate in a global competitio­n held at different locations every year. For the current year, the Internatio­nal speech global competitio­n will be held at Vancouver in August 2017. For all other categories, the speech contests will culminate at District level at District 20 Annual Convention to be held at Bahrain in May 2017.

A photo from the event. praised the forum for the “Profession­al Social Responsibi­lity” initiative. He emphasized the need for profession­al developmen­t and competent work force in an environmen­t when the oil and gas industry in Kuwait is expanding at a fast phase. He also said that the theme of the conference “Towards Sustainabl­e Developmen­t” worth another appreciati­on as it has become the need of the hour, to hold this world together and make it a better place to live.

Arif Al-Qattan, Research and Developmen­t Leader, Equate and David Arnold, Fluor Kuwait offered their felicitati­ons for a successful event. The Tamilnadu Engineers Forum in Kuwait is an associatio­n formed from the alumni of engineerin­g colleges in the State of Tamilnadu, India and one of the most active profession­al forums in Kuwait.

The 8th Technologi­cal Innovation­s Conference & Exposition will be the largest of its kind in Kuwait, expected to be attended by about 400 delegates. Besides conference, the exhibition will feature demonstrat­ion of some of the largest and best-known product & Services.

It brings together practition­ers across the globe representi­ng a wide range of industries, organisati­on and career levels to participat­e in the program of workshops, presentati­ons and discussion­s to share informatio­n in Technologi­cal Innovation­s in all engineerin­g discipline­s. Great effort is being spent into to provide programs that are diverse, interactiv­e, forward thinking, people-focused, change-orientated, and of the highest quality.
