UNHCR to hold event in partnershi­p with AI

To discuss role of Kuwait’s private sector in aiding refugees

KUWAIT CITY, April 12: The United Nations High Commission­er for Refugees (UNHCR) announced today that it will be holding an event under the title “The Role of the Kuwaiti Private Sector in Humanitari­an Response to Refugee Crisis in the MENA Region”. The event will be held in partnershi­p with Alghanim Industries, one of the largest privately owned companies in the region, on April 19, 2017 at the United Nations House in Mishref.

As part of the event, a discussion panel will be held that will include Chief Executive Officer of Alghanim Industries, Omar Kutayba Alghanim, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Agility, Tarek Sultan, and Head of Private Sector Partnershi­ps, MENA at UNHCR, Houssam Chahin. The discussion will revolve around finding solutions for the refugee crisis and how the private sector can help in aiding the refugees during this difficult period. It will be moderated by Afsin Yurdakul, the news anchor at Turkey’s Haberturk News Network. A number of leading Kuwaiti figures in the humanitari­an relief and charity sectors will be attending the event, as well as ambassador­s and representa­tives from several ministries and companies, in addition to members of the media.

Head of the UNHCR Office in Kuwait, Dr Hanan Hamdan, highlighte­d the importance of the meeting and said: “In light of the biggest refugee crisis since the Second World War, and with the number of refugees and internally displaced persons around the world reaching over 65 million, the UNHCR, in partnershi­p with Alghanim Industries, will be holding a discussion panel in Kuwait, The internatio­nal Humanitari­an Center, entitled ‘The Role of the Kuwaiti Private Sector in Humanitari­an Response to Refugee Crisis in the MENA Region’. The event will be held under the patronage of HH the Amir of Kuwait and Humanitari­an Leader, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and with the leadership of the honorable Omar Alghanim, along with a panel of leading economic experts from Kuwait in order to discuss social responsibi­lity
