KUWAIT CITY, April 13, (KUNA): The importance of petroleum is based on the fact that it is closely connected to a strategic item that has been moving the world’s economy, a senior official at the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) has said .

Abdul-Karim Ayed, head of the media department at OPAPEC made the statement in a lecture he gave on Thursday to the fifth and concluding day of the 24th Forum on Fundamentals of Oil and Gas Industry.

It is linked to an item that constitutes the major source of income in many world countries, and affects policies and economies, he said.

Media in general has been playing a crucial role in all aspects of life, and over decades has not only spread news but also directed the public opinion, and came to be one of the main tools in conflicts, Ayed added.

Petroleum media is the channel that reports the various events and developments of the oil industry, which is the backbone of the world’s economy, he said. According to Ayed, the Arab petroleum media has to focus on correcting the distorted media of the Arab oil industry in the West.

The Western media looks to the industry as closely connected to the Arab political regimes and communities, he said.

Meanwhile, the Arab Labor Conference (ALC) has stressed the importance of finding a joint Arab vision to achieve sustainable development based on several pillars, mainly educating and training women in the countryside. This came Wednesday during the conclusion of the 44th session of ALC held under chairmanship of the State of Kuwait.

The conference urged approving national development projects and programs to benefit poor families and provide new jobs for people.

The event assigned Director General of the Arab Labor Organization (ALO) to prepare the annual report on the Israeli settlements and their negative social and economic effects on situations of employers and workers in Palestine and at the Golan Heights.

It called for translating the report into the languages accredited in activities of International Labor Organization (ILO) to be generalized before International Labor Conference scheduled in Geneva next June.

ALC also called on Arab delegations and members of ILO to make more efforts and intensify contacts on all levels as well as support constantly Palestinian needs and demands in the forthcoming period.
