Doctor sacked, under probe for ‘stealing’ Tramadol pills

Don’t touch dead fish, beach-goers warned

KUWAIT CITY, April 16: The Kuwait Dive Team affiliated to the Environmental Voluntary Foundation has warned visitors to Kuwait Bay beaches especially children from touching dead (jam) fish because of very sharp thorns that can inflict severe pain, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

In a statement to KUNA, the team explained that the jam fish are seabed fish that are concentrated in heavy sticky soil areas and emerge when sea temperatures are average to high. They do not have shells or scales on their skins and their length vary between 10 cm to 90 cm.

It revealed that the emergence of these fish on the coast of Kuwait in abundance is normal even though they have come too early this time and in huge numbers.

The team urged fishermen to refrain from fishing these fish and to throw them into the sea. It called for concerned authorities to remove dead fish especially of this type as soon as possible in order to avoid the danger posed by them to the beach visitors, the bad smell that emanate from them, and the possibility of the dead fish being blown back into the sea by wind.

The team affirmed that the characteristics of the “jam fish” include its ability to withstand extreme changes in its environment from heat to salty, and they proliferate in spring between March and early June.
