Girl with MS scores 99% in mid-term examination
‘Defiance’ perfectly defines her
KUWAIT CITY, May 23: Defiance is the strong will which renders human determination to achieve his/her objective. For a student named Rawan, “defiance” is the word that defines her perfectly. She is a 12th year science-major in Farwaniya High School who managed to score 99 percent in the mid-term exams, reports Al-Anba daily.
However, she developed a disease known as Multiple sclerosis (MS), which gradually made her blind from the end of the first term. Since then, she has been going back and forth the hospital and school.
Since the grade 12 students are now taking their final high school examinations, Rawan has been preparing for these exams at Farwaniya Hospital where she is admitted. She is currently undertaking the exams with the help of two teachers - one for reading questions to her, and the other for writing on her behalf. Both were designated for her by her school’s examination committee.
Such a step was taken after Rawan refused to quit school even though she was told that the medication will take a long time and it will be difficult for her to continue pursuing her high school education.
Rawan has been revising her lessons daily with help of her mother. She goes to a special examination center at the school in the morning to sit for her examinations.
According to her mother who is always with Rawan, she affirms that her daughter has strong faith in Allah and she believes her daughter’s blurry vision will be restored in the future.
Meanwhile, the Principal of Farwaniya High School for Girls Suham Al-Suhail revealed that the MS disease has started spreading lately and had affect two of her students but one of them has been cured.
She affirmed that the school has been supporting Rawan with the help of Ministry of Education, which has designated a special examination center for her where she goes to take her final exams.
Multiple sclerosis, also known as MS, is a chronic disease that attacks the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves). In severe cases, the patient becomes paralyzed or blind while in milder cases, numbness in the limbs is experienced.
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported that several cases of malpractices were recorded during the secondary-level final examinations in Kuwait, reports Al-Anba daily.
BBC had investigated the issue and discovered that the students who committed malpractice had used wireless earphones for the purpose.
According to the BBC report, the speakers of these earphones are very small and can be inserted into the ears. After the exams are over, the speakers are removed using a magnet. However, for some cases, surgery is required which can have negative impact on the hearing ability.
