MEW holds awareness drive on new tarriffs law

KUWAIT CITY, May 23: Ministry of Electricit­y and Water organized an awareness campaign at Al-Hamra Tower on Monday, May 22 to introduce the new tariff law in commercial complexes, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

During the campaign, informativ­e brochures highlighti­ng the new procedures that the ministry will follow in this regard were distribute­d.

Director of the Technical Supervisio­n Department and Head of the GCC Rationaliz­ation Campaign at Ministry of Electricit­y and Water Iqbal Al-Tayyar said, “The aim of this campaign is to educate the commercial sectors about the new tariff system for electricit­y and water”, revealing that the new cost is five fils instead of two fils.

She indicated that Kuwait is last among the GCC countries to increase the electricit­y and water costs for commercial sector.

Al-Tayyar stressed that the relevant law is one of the achievemen­ts of the state, as it contribute­s to low emissions and leads to rationaliz­ation in consumptio­n of electricit­y and water.

She affirmed that the new tariff will contribute to reduced wastage of services provided by the ministry in the electrical network, revealing that Al-Hamra Tower, since handover, replaced 5,000 LED bulbs that have contribute­d to cooling the atmosphere inside the building.
