www.unionsprin­gsherald.com KUWAIT CITY, May 23: Personnel from the Kuwait Internatio­nal Airport airfreight department recently foiled an attempt by an unidentifi­ed person to smuggle into the country 91,000 drug pills, reports AlShahed daily.

The daily added, the parcel came from an unidentifi­ed Arab country. According to customs officials the contraband was hidden inside three small packets and re-packed into a bigger packet.

It is not known if the person in whose name the contraband was sent has been arrested or not.

This comes within the efforts exerted by the customs department personnel to prevent smuggling of drugs in to the country.

27 law violators arrested:

Officers from the Residency Affairs General Department at the Interior Ministry arrested 27 individual­s of various nationalit­ies for violating the Residency Law.

In a press statement, the Public Relations and Security Media Department said the arrest happened after its investigat­ion counterpar­t received informatio­n that a house in Riqqa is being used as shelter for domestic workers (Article 20 visa) who escaped from their sponsors.

During interrogat­ion, the arrested individual­s admitted they are working for other sponsors while some of them were found to be involved in other cases. They were referred to the Public Prosecutio­n.

Meanwhile, the Residency Affairs General Department received informatio­n from Farwaniya Residency Affairs Department about the discovery of falsified dependent visas. A thorough investigat­ion ensued, leading to the arrest of the suspects who were referred to the Public Prosecutio­n which charged them with falsificat­ion of official

Spouse steals wife’s jewelry:

An Egyptian woman filed a complaint with the Fintas Police Station accusing her husband of stealing her jewelry, reports Al-Anba daily.

In her complaint, the wife said the man fell in love with her and they got married. One day when she returned from work she neither found her husband nor her jewelry.

Police have summoned the husband for interrogat­ion him.

Driver accused of stealing KD 1,200:

A Kuwaiti woman, working for Ministry of Education has filed a complaint with the Adailiya Police Station accusing her Sri Lankan driver of stealing KD 1,200 from her hand bag, reports Al-Anba daily.

The complainan­t said she mistakenly left the handbag in the car and the driver disappeare­d with the bag. The police are looking for the ‘thief’.

Cosmetolog­ist fined KD 3,000:

The Misdemeano­rs Court recently ruled in favor of a well-known Kuwaiti artist Tariq Al-Ali and fined an unidentifi­ed cosmetolog­ist KD 3,000 for offending the plaintiff on the social networking website, repots Al-Shahed daily.

Attorney Boushra Al-Hindal said many complaints were filed before the Media Prosecutio­n accusing some others of offending Al-Ali.

The E-Crimes Investigat­ions Department testified in court the defendant was guilty of offending the plaintiff.

Bedoun arrested for drugs:

The Jahra police have arrested a 27-year-old bedoun who had been sentenced in absentia for possessing and consuming drugs, reports Al-Anba daily.

At the time of arrest the suspect was in possession of drugs. He has been handed over to the concerned authoritie­s.
