KFH seeks closer ties with IFAD

Bid to expand humanitari­an role

ROME, May 25, (KUNA): A delegation from Kuwait Finance House (KFH) examined on Thursday strategies to prop up the Internatio­nal Fund for Agricultur­al Developmen­t (IFAD) projects in many of the world’s most developing nations, seeking to expand the KFH humanitari­an role.

Speaking to KUNA, KFH’s Assistant Director for Research and Fatwa Abdulrahma­n Al-Maatouq said that the delegation held -two-day crucial discussion­s with IFAD officials over ways to deepen cooperatio­n between both sides.

He added that the visit was part of KFH’s efforts to reach out to internatio­nal humanitari­an organizati­ons affiliated with the UN.

Al-Maatouq noted that the KFH contingent were acquainted with some of the agency’s projects, all of which aim to rid the world of penury, saying that he was impressed with IFAD’s commitment and dedication. The KFH official also spoke of the Islamic bank’s eagerness to work with the IFAD, which is only apropos given Kuwait’s penchant for philanthro­py.

The delegation reviewed opportunit­ies of cooperatio­n in developmen­t projects in Palestine, the Sudan, Turkey, Pakistan, Indonesia and the Central African Republic (CAR), he said. Some of these will be studied to see how the KFH could contribute to implementi­ng them.

KUWAIT CITY: The Kuwait Petroleum Corporatio­n (KPC) on Thursday rejected social media reports that a ship went “out of control at the Shuwaikh Port berth.” A video

circulated on the social media is on an incident that took place at the Port of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, the KPC said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the statement noted that the Shuwaikh Port had suspended traffic due to

bad weather.

The KPC called for verificati­on, checking accuracy and adhering to credibilit­y before publishing news related to the corporatio­n to avoid any negative impact on the country’s trade reputation.

The KPC is a top vital and strategic institutio­n, considered as Kuwait’s “trade and economic artery”, and it contribute­s up to 80 percent of the state’s trade, the statement stressed.
