Al-Jarrah affirms need to reduce costs for recruitment of domestics
Aim to open new markets ensuring diversification
KUWAIT CITY, May 28: Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khaled AlJarrah has affirmed the need to reduce costs for recruitment of domestic workers and open new markets, with the aim of curbing increase in recruitment costs, reports Al-Rai daily.
He revealed about coordination among the GCC member states to develop a unified strategy for determining the costs for recruitment of domestic workers as well as for standardizing the salaries and procedures in all GCC countries.
Sheikh Al-Jarrah indicated that the rising costs for recruitment of domestic workers is because of a number of factors such as monopoly of the market by owners of some recruitment offices, and their control over the number of domestic workers sent to work in Kuwait in order to increase the amount of commission they receive.
In response to a parliamentary question presented by MP Khalil Al-Saleh, Sheikh Al-Jarrah explained that Ministry of Interior is working on solving the problem related to rising costs for recruiting domestic workers, with the cooperation of concerned government agencies, particularly Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is aimed at determining the actual costs for recruiting domestic workers, and specifying the value of the commission for the recruitment offices.
He disclosed about an inclination to open new markets for minimizing the costs and ensuring diversification in the recruitment of domestic workers.
The minister said the offices and companies that are licensed to bring domestic workers from some African countries have been allowed to enter the labor market to reduce the recruitment costs and ease the financial burdens on Kuwaiti families.
