Egyptian arrested for stabbing Filipino in the back

KUWAIT CITY, May 28: The Criminal Court sentenced a citizen to death for killing Lance Corporal Turki Al-Anzi as he deliberate­ly ran over the victim during the National Day celebratio­n.

The Public Prosecutio­n charged the citizen with deliberate­ly running over with the intention to kill a number of securityme­n who were on duty at a security checkpoint during the National Day celebratio­n. The prosecutio­n disclosed the accused used his vehicle which he prepared to commit the crime.

The prosecutio­n said the accused drove fast towards the securityme­n who were standing at Dasman Roundabout. He ran over Al-Anzi many times causing injuries mentioned in the Forensic report and these injuries led to the death of the latter. The prosecutio­n added that the accused ran over five other securityme­n who were rescued and given proper medical care.

Meanwhile, the Misdemeano­r Court of Cassation acquitted two Ministry of Education employees of allegedly causing a huge loss of funds in their offices.

The Public Prosecutio­n Department charged both employees of committing serious errors through which their respective offices lost huge sums. The employees allegedly caused loss of KD 193,000 due to their nonchalant attitudes.

The Court of Appeals sentenced the employees to three years in prison and KD 20,000 fine, although the Court of First Instance had earlier acquitted them.

Defense Lawyer Mohammad Hamza filed an appeal against the ruling, urging the court to crush the judgment. He blamed the appellate court for judging in error.

Filipino stabbed in back:

Personnel from the Farwaniya Criminal Investigat­ions Department have arrested an Egyptian for stabbing a Filipino in the back and robbing his money, reports Al-Anba daily.

As soon as the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry received a report on the incident, officers rushed to the spot and arrested the suspect.

When police arrived at the scene of the crime they found the Filipino in a pool of blood. He told police a man in dishdasha robbed his wallet, cell phone and the money which he had just withdrawn from an ATM machine, stabbed him in the back and escaped.

The Egyptian has been referred to the Public Prosecutio­n.

KD 6,000 gold jewelry stolen:

An expatriate, identified only as (M.N.) born in 1983, has filed a complaint with the Salmiya Police Station accusing unidentifi­ed persons of breaking the door of his apartment and stealing gold jewelry worth KD 6,000 from the closet in the bedroom, reports AlAnba daily.

In his complaint, the man said the theft occurred when they were on duty.

Personnel from the Criminal Evidences Department have been summoned to lift fingerprin­ts.

Maid arrested with

‘qat’:

Customs officers at the Kuwait Internatio­nal Airport have arrested an unidentifi­ed Ethiopian maid for attempting to smuggle into the country six packets of ‘qat’, reports Al-Shahed daily.

According to customs sources, the qat was concealed in her luggage.

The contraband and the maid have been referred to the concerned authority.

KD 100 stolen from car:

A GCC citizen has filed a complaint with the Taima Police Station accusing an unidentifi­ed person of breaking into his car and stealing KD 100 cash and family card, reports Al-Anba daily.

Personnel from the Criminal Evidences Department have been summoned to lift the fingerprin­ts. Two Asian expatriate­s were arrested in possession of two barrels of locally manufactur­ed liquor inside a flat in Hawally area.

According to security sources, Hawally securityme­n were patrolling the area when they noticed a man running as soon as he saw the patrol vehicle. Securityme­n chased him until they saw him run into a flat.

They requested for backup as well as a warrant from the Public Prosecutio­n to
