MoI in bid to secure mosques, places of worship in Ramadan

Several ministry sectors involved in executing comprehens­ive security plan Two Asian bootlegger­s arrested

KUWAIT CITY, May 28: Since the first day of Ramadan, Ministry of Interior has been implementi­ng a comprehens­ive security plan to secure mosques and places of worship throughout the month of Ramadan, reports Aljarida daily quoting an informed source.

He explained that this security plan includes specific procedures that will be implemente­d until the last ten days of Ramadan. Several relevant sectors within the ministry are involved in executing the plan in collaborat­ion with Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and many other government agencies such as General Department of Customs and Kuwait Fire Service Directorat­e.

The source went on to explain that the Assistant Undersecre­tary for Public Security Major General Ibrahim Al-Tarrah held a series of coordinati­ve meetings with the concerned authoritie­s to adopt a workable strategy and mechanism for executing the plan. Those authoritie­s have been prepared to protect internal and external mosques and places of worship, and carry out regular safety activities inside mosques. A major part of the procedures is checking worshipper­s before they enter mosques and places of worship and ensuring those places are suitable for worshippin­g in all aspects.

He declared that 3,000 security operatives from the General Department of Public Security, General Department of Special Security, General Department of Criminal Investigat­ions, General Department of Residency Investigat­ions, General Traffic Department, State Security Department and General Department of Rescue Police are involved in the process.

Meanwhile, a Sri Lankan expatriate was arrested in Salmiya area in possession of two imported liquor bottles.
