KUWAIT CITY, May 28: Assistant Vice-President for Strategic Planning at Kuwait University (KU) Dr Majed Al-Daihani has called on the Cabinet to exclude the university from austerity decisions in order to continue improving quality of education and to compete with other universities, reports Al-Rai daily.

Al-Daihani pointed out that KU is the only public university in the country, indicating human resources should help eliminate the negative consequences of income reduction by decreasing cost and increasing production. He asserted the investment in human recourses is supposed to increase in case of reduction in income.

He said the Strategic Planning Department in KU is currently working on the five-year plan (2017/2022) which aims to improve the status of the university. He disclosed the department organized a number of workshops in cooperation with the working centers at KU including the assistant vice-presidents, Admission and Registration Deanship, Student Affairs Deanship and faculties. He added the objective is to clarify four future directions in the strategic plan, indicating each center is analyzing its current situation in order to define its targets.

He went on to say the Strategic Planning Department is now receiving the sub-plans of each faculty, stressing the need to execute these sub-plans and fulfill the four axes of the strategic plan. He explained that once all the sub-plans are received, the general plan of the university will be drafted and then referred to the University Council for implementation by the beginning of next year – 2017/2018, and it will continue for five years.

The Elections Committee at Ministry of Interior has not received any complaints over its decision to allow 50,000 new voters to vote in the coming parliamentary elections, reports Aljarida daily quoting sources.

They indicated that the decision has thereby increased the total number of voters to 519,660 with women topping the list.

The sources stressed that process for registration of voters this year started with the Fourth and Fifth Constituencies following by the Third Constituency, then the First Constituency and finally the Second Constituency.

They revealed that the committee so far received only two objections from two voters after it refused to register them due to some issues related to their addresses.

In addition, neither the committee nor the Court of First Instance received any complaints concerning electoral bans.

It is worth mentioning that the law had set April 20 as the last day for filing complaints in this regard.
