Ministry of Electricity and Water has procured 243 new power generators in their various sizes to deal with possible power outages in the summer, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Head of Operation Unit Hani Bahaa El-Deen said the generators will support the networks with emergency voltage whenever there is power outage at the distribution hub until maintenance teams fix the fault and restore the power.
He said power failures are experienced for various reasons such as excavations activities by contractors who mistakenly cut cables, load increase or old transformers. He said preparation for the summer season started early as some engineers were trained in April. The preparations include making spare parts available, fixing holidays of employees and installing 200,000 liter-capacity diesel reservoir.
He stressed the role of the department starts with receiving request for generators from emergency areas and moving quickly to the target area. “Reaching the target location may take up to 45 minutes, while technicians need another 45 minutes to connect 16 cables to the main generators, which means the technicians need about 90-120 minutes to connect an emergency current,” he indicated.
