Parties will discuss ironing out obstacles

KUWAIT CITY, June 8: Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and State Minister for Municipal Affairs Mohammed Al-Jabri will hold a coordination meeting with the Minister of Commerce and Industry Khaled Al-Roudhan for discussing the licensing regulations for home businesses. The meeting will be attended by officials from Kuwait Municipality and Ministry of Commerce and Industry, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

During the meeting, the parties will discuss the importance of facilitating procedures and ironing out the obstacles in the execution of home businesses in line with the applicable laws.

The meeting comes in the framework of the keenness of the authorities to reach an agreeable mechanism for issuance of licenses to practice 20 types of home businesses which include interior designing, planning, painting, photography, web designing, computer programming and so on.

On their part, the Federation of Kuwait Engineering Offices and Consultant Houses has urged both the State Minister for Municipal Affairs and the Minister of Commerce and Industry to delay approval for issuance of licenses for home businesses so that private residential areas are not transformed into unofficial markets as seen in Jleeb AlShuyoukh and Khaitan areas, which cost the state huge monies whereby the authorities were forced to evacuate them.

Head of the federation Bader Al-Salman said, “We call upon the rational members of the Parliament and the government to intervene in preventing the issuance of such a decision. We are especially complaining about the presence of nurseries, tailor shops, and beauty parlors in private residential areas, and the exploitation of basements which has caused so many adverse incidents.”

He cited the incident that occurred few a years ago in the basement of a building in Abdullah Mubarak area due to storage of chemical substances and food items, which had resulted in several casualties.

Al-Salman explained that the State has allocated sites for facilities and services in each area besides the cooperative societies which can be utilized to carry out these new activities. This can be achieved by issuing licenses to these businesses in accordance with the conditions set by Ministry of Commerce and Trade or Public Authority for Industry or Public Authority for Youth Affairs.
