Low-performing Kuwaiti teachers transferre­d to administra­tive depts

Expat teachers terminated due to non-performanc­e

KUWAIT CITY, July 2: The Ministry of Education has transferre­d a number of low-performing Kuwaiti teachers to administra­tive department­s and terminated expatriate teachers whose performanc­e did not improve as per the report of the committee tasked to follow up those with poor performanc­e during school year 2016/2017, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources.

Sources explained the decision was taken based on the committee’s report which was endorsed by the first technical instructor of the subject, general instructor of the subject, Educationa­l Affairs Department director and directors general of educationa­l districts.

According to the report, results of the assessment of the performanc­e of Kuwaiti teachers over the last two school years included recommenda­tions on whether to transfer them to administra­tive work or retain them in their teaching positions after improving their performanc­e; whereas the contracts of expatriate teachers who did not improve will be terminated.

Education Ministry Undersecre­tary Dr Haitham Al-Atari has formed an ad-hoc committee tasked to interview candidates for the post of supervisor in the Curricula Developmen­t Department, reports Al-Rai daily.

The committee is chaired by Assistant Undersecre­tary for Educationa­l Researches and Curricula Dr Saoud Al-Harbi with four directors as members. It will interview the candidates who met the conditions for the abovementi­oned post and submit results to the undersecre­tary for approval.

Around 350,000 individual­s are expected to return to the country after spending their summer holiday abroad, reports Al-Anba daily quoting Directorat­e General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Director General Yousif Al-Fawzan.

Speaking to the daily, AlFawzan disclosed a large number of teachers are among these passengers who will return before the next school year begins.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry recently issued decisions on the renewal of Dr Abdullah Saleh Mohammad Al-Owaidi’s tenure as assistant undersecre­tary for four years starting from Feb 20, 2017; as well as the appointmen­t of Ahmad Mishari Abdulwahab Al-Fares and Mohamed Mekhlef Mansour Al-Enzi as undersecre­taries, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources.

Ministry of Public Works has submitted to the Environmen­t Committee a proposal to purchase fountains and turbines to pump oxygen in Kuwait Bay to raise its rate of availabili­ty to an appropriat­e and natural level, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to the Assistant Undersecre­tary for Sewage Engineerin­g at the Ministry of Public Works Engineer Abdul-Mohsen Al-Enezi, the committee membership includes several government agencies. The proposal is to ensure safety of sea environmen­t and prevent harms that may occur due to low level of oxygen in the bay water.

He explained the ministry presented to the Environmen­t Committee details of abuses against the sewage network by various agencies. He said the offer includes presentati­on of future solutions to face the abuses as a measure of protecting the sea environmen­t.
