Legislator prepares bill on escapees
Stiffer penalties sought
KUWAIT CITY, July 23: MP Abdul-Kareem Al-Kandari has prepared a bill on amending five articles of Penal Code No. 17/1960 in a bid to impose harsher penalties on those who hide prisoners or help them escape.
He explained the amendments are necessary in view of the escape of those convicted of involvement in Abdali cell. He also affirmed support for some of his colleagues’ request for a special parliamentary session to discuss Kuwait-Iran relations and repercussions of the verdict of the Court of Cassation.
In a related issue, MP Hamad Saif Al-Harashani urged his colleagues to give HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid AlSabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah and all competent bodies sufficient time to carry out their duties in relation to the escape of Abdali cell convicts.
“We do not doubt the efficiency and ability of Sheikh AlJarrah and the security leaders who are keen on maintaining the security and safety of the
homeland,” he asserted while stressing the need for MPs to shoulder their national responsibilities and to avoid instigating sedition when dealing with the Abdali cell case.
He also called on the Attorney General to issue a decision to prevent the circulation and publication of anything related to the case in all media platforms including the social networking sites to maintain national unity and to protect the security institution from any interference in the performance of its work, taking into account the situation in the region.
Meanwhile, MP Faisal Al-Kandari, member of the parliamentary Investigation Committee tasked to look into issues in health offices, denied what was published in a local newspaper about a health office dealing with an Israeli mediator, calling on such newspapers to verify information prior to publication. He reiterated the health office deals directly with hospitals, not intermediaries or companies.
He clarified the investigation is still ongoing and a final report will be submitted to the Parliament upon completion of the committee’s task; hence, the need for everyone to be prudent and to refrain from spreading false information.
