ERBID, Jordan, July 23, (KUNA): Some 174 Syrian students graduated from Jordan’s Queen Rania Center at Yarmouk University after receiving grants worth a total $700,000 from Kuwait.

Addressing the ceremony, Kuwait’s Ambassador to Jordan Dr Hamad Al-Duaij reiterated the country’s leading humanitarian role in support of the “Syrian brothers,” inspired by Kuwait’s political leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah AlAhmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The region has been suffering the horrible impact of wars and dislodgment that have widely affected many countries, including Jordan, which deserves all forms of backing for hosting the huge numbers of refugees and displaced, he said.

Al-Duaij stressed the significance of Kuwait’s support which aims to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people, and assist the Jordanian Government to withstand the repercussions of hosting refugees.

He also lauded the “brotherly” ties between Kuwait and the Hashemite Kingdom.

The refugee students are now qualified in vocational training, generously supported by Kuwait in cooperation with UNESCO, Queen Rania Center director Dr. Haytham beni Salama told KUNA.

Beni Salama urged other nations to follow suit in support of the refugees, and also to lessen the burden on the host country.

For his part, President of Yarmouk University Dr Rifaat Faouri commended Kuwait’s role and its support of the programs.

This is essential for training Syrians and preparing them to enter the workforce, he explained.
