Murdoch Jr gets okay for Australia TV network bid Latest KGA open football tourney:

Ramsay to produce cocaine docuseries

SYDNEY, Aug 24, (Agencies): News Corporation co-chair Lachlan Murdoch got the green light to bid for Australia’s third-largest television network on Thursday, a deal that would see his media empire extend its huge reach Down Under.

Australia’s competition watchdog said it would not oppose the potential takeover of troubled broadcaster Ten Network but added approval would be subject to a shake-up in Canberra’s strict media ownership laws.

Ten has been on air since 1964 but like other media organisations has struggled with slumping advertising revenues and in June was placed in voluntary administration.

The network posted a net loss in SeptemberFebruary of Aus$232 million (US$183 million).

Murdoch, the son of media titan Rupert, said in July he was eyeing a joint bid for the company alongside media mogul Bruce Gordon, who owns regional network WIN.

A takeover by Murdoch’s investment company Illyria and Gordon’s Birketu would give them each a 50 percent share.

“While this transaction will result in some reduction in diversity across the Australian media landscape, we have concluded it would not substantially lessen competition,” said Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) chairman Rod Sims.

Murdoch is co-chair of News Corp, whose Australian division is the country’s largest publisher and owner of major metropolitan newspapers The Australian, Sydney’s The Daily Telegraph and Melbourne’s Herald Sun.

But he and others remain restricted in the country by tough media ownership laws introduced in the 1980s.

ITV and Studio Ramsay have teamed up to produce “Gordon on Cocaine,” a new two-part series from celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. Britain is Europe’s largest user of cocaine, which is rampant in the restaurant industry. The show will follow Ramsay as he travels the world to uncover the secrets of the drug and the damage it has done. Ramsay, who lost a friend to the drug in 2003, said, “I’ve wanted to understand the world of cocaine ever since I lost one of my chefs … and I wanted to learn why it’s becoming such an epidemic not just globally but specifically in the culinary world .... The documentary is gritty and shocking, but importantly an eye opener and hopefully a real education to all those in our industry and beyond.”

Showtime has acquired the footage for Prince’s “Sign O’ the Times” concert. Created as a companion to the critically acclaimed album of the same name and featuring songs like “If I Was Your Girlfriend” and “Little Red Corvette,” the film was directed by Prince, yet was never released on DVD. Much of the footage was shot at Prince’s Paisley Park Studios and is supplemented with filming from concerts in the Netherlands and Belgium. The rarely seen video will air on Sept 16 at 9/8 pm ET/PT.

Marvel and DC Comics superheroes may be battling for box office domination, but on the small screen, a little known blue superhero is offering up a satirical take on larger-than-life crusaders for justice.

“The Tick,” a new Amazon Studios series premiering on Friday, follows the adventures of eccentric superhero The Tick, a man in a blue spandex suit with feelers sticking out of his head who has no memory of his own origins.

He and his bumbling sidekick Arthur fight incompetently against strange villains like Ramses IV, Ms Lint, The Terror and Overkill, while encountering respected superheroes.

“It’s set in the real world where superheroes exist. I’m also a superhero, but even the superheroes think I’m weird,” actor Peter Serafinowicz said in an interview of playing The Tick.

A new clip from NBC takes “This Is Us” viewers back to a familiar location — the hospital.

Before getting there, the three minute clip starts with Randall (Sterling K. Brown) telling Rebecca (Mandy Moore) that his wife isn’t totally on board with his adoption plans. He asks his mother about how she and her late husband Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) decided to adopt him. With some prodding, she hesitantly admits, “It’s complicated.”

A flashback cuts to Jack and Rebecca looking at a newborn Randall in the hospital. Having just lost a triplet during childbirth, Rebecca confessed she initially said no to adopting. “But your father was so sure I was tired and I was grieving, and he just kept pushing me,” she recounted. and Manju along with Rev Saji Abraham (Vicar) and Jayan Varghese (CEF Mumbai director).
