KHRS takes part in consultations on global compact for migration
Kuwait Human Rights Society participated in the Arab regional civil society consultations on global compact for migration that concluded its activities recently in Beirut, Lebanon.
The consultations were held in the framework of ensuring safe, orderly and regular migration.
The event anchored by the Cross-Regional Center for Refugees and Migrants (CCRM) aimed to help ensure that the voices of local regional civil society organizations, particularly those of migrants, diaspora and grassroots communities are heard at the global level.
The global compact for migration will be the first intergovernmental negotiated agreement prepared under the auspices of the United Nations to cover all dimensions of international migration in a holistic and comprehensive manner.
Adopted in September 2016, the General Assembly decided to develop a global compact for safe, orderly and regular migration, while process to develop this global compact for migration started in April 2017.
The General Assembly will hold an intergovernmental conference on international migration in 2018 with a view to adopt the global compact, which is a significant opportunity to improve the governance on migration and address the challenges associated with today’s migration, while strengthening the contribution of migrants and migration to sustainable development.
