Further convergence between labor exporting, importing countries vital, says Kuwaiti official
BEIRUT, Sept 27, (KUNA): A Kuwaiti senior official on Tuesday emphasized the significance of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue mechanism for further convergence and stronger partnership between the labor exporting and importing nations.
Addressing a regional consultation meeting on international migration in the Arab region, Assistant Foreign Minister for International Organizations Nasser Al-Hayyen called for developing mechanisms for enabling the Arab countries to enhance the necessary arrangements for securing the human rights of migrant labor, and fair recognition of their skills and qualifications through providing them with a safe environment.
Leading the Kuwaiti delegation to the event held in Beirut, Al-Hayyen voiced his country’s pride of being a member in the Abu Dhabi Dialogue. The Kuwaiti senior diplomat today presided over a session on “proper work and the movement of manpower.” The consultation meeting was organized by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in cooperation with the Arab League and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) as part of the preparations for the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) to be concluded in 2018.
Established in 2008, the Abu Dhabi Dialogue launched a collaborative approach to address development in temporary labor mobility in Asia. It was initiated to broaden the base for common understanding of issues and to influence practices and policies in the area of contractual labor for the region.
