KUWAIT CITY, Sept 27: Zain, the leading telecommunications company in Kuwait, announces it is partnering Soroptimist International Club Kuwait to support a gala musical event featuring renowned Oud musician, Charbel Rouhana, to be held at Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Cultural Centre in Kuwait on Oct 11, 2017. The ‘Night of Enchanting Music’ is being organized in cooperation with and in support of Soroptimist International Club Kuwait and SANAD charitable organizations, with the aim to raise awareness of the importance of palliative care and home hospice for the terminally ill.

Over the years, Zain Kuwait has continuously championed worthwhile causes, such as its annual Breast Cancer awareness campaign, building and equipping the Zain ENT Hospital, and this latest gala event is set to be no different.

Soroptimist International focuses on action and awareness in five main areas affecting the lives of females globally through a network of members and international memberships. These areas extend to: Economic Empowerment; Education & Learning; Environment; Food Security & Health and Ending Violence Against Women. With respect to palliative care, Soroptimist focuses on raising education and health awareness issues among females, given the caregiving role is often carried out by women, either within the family structure, or within the nursing profession.

Soroptimist International Club Kuwait applauds SANAD’s efforts to provide comprehensive home based hospice care free-of-charge to terminally ill patients in Lebanon while preserving their dignity and enhancing the quality of their lives. The organization delivers these support services to patients regardless of nationality, religion, political affiliation, gender, diagnosis or ability to pay.

Commenting on this initiative, Waleed Al Khashti, Zain Kuwait’s Corporate Communications and Relations Director said, “Our efforts are worthless should we not serve the communities we operate in, and the support of this concert is another example of Zain’s outlook on being a partner in activities that benefit society at large. Charbel Rouhana is an incredible artist, whom we are sure many people will be looking forward to hearing in concert, and we commend Soroptimist International and SANAD for both doing outstanding jobs in helping many needy people across the region.”

Stacey Al Ghawas, President of Soroptimist International Club Kuwait said, “We are honored to be working with Zain and SANAD to increase awareness of Palliative Care in Kuwait and the region. We hope that Charbel Rouhana’s beautiful Oud concert offers an opportunity to increase support for the Kuwaiti institutions that provide this vital care: Kuwait Palliative Care Center and Bayt Abdullah.”

Palliative care is an approach that aims to improve the quality of life of patients facing terminal illnesses and their families. It focuses on the prevention and relief from suffering through early identification and assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psychosocial and spiritual.

Palliative care teams are usually multidisciplinary in nature as they consist of doctors, nurses, psychologists and may also include social workers, registered dieticians and pharmacists. All members of a palliative care team work together to coordinate the care and support provided to both the patient and their families.

Credited with creating a new method of playing the Oud, Charbel Rouhana is a Lebanese national who received his Diploma in Oud Performance in 1986, and a Masters in Musicology in 1987 from the Faculty of Music, USEK University, Lebanon. He has performed alongside numerous Arab artist, both in and outside of Lebanon such as Fairuz, Majida Al Roumi, Julia Boutros and Marcel Khalife.

Charbel is a recipient of numerous awards including the Japanese Hirayama Award in 1990 and the Murex Award in 2000. From 20022006, he taught Oud at his alma mater and the National Music Conservatory in Lebanon and has released over ten albums, touring extensively around the world.
