Chiefs retain AP Pro32 top spot, Falcons remain 2nd

NEW YORK, Sept 27, (AP): Through three weeks, the NFL is down to two unbeaten teams: the Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons.

While the fast start for the defending NFC champions is no surprise, the Chiefs are on quite a roll.

Kansas City is the No. 1 team in the latest AP Pro32 poll , receiving 11 of 12 first-place votes for 383 points Tuesday in balloting by media members who regularly cover the NFL.

The Chiefs play their second nationally televised game of the season when they host the Washington Redskins on Monday night.

The Falcons remained at No. 2 and received the other first-place vote for 370 points. Atlanta hung on to beat Detroit 30-26 on Sunday after video review showed cornerback Brian Poole touching Golden Tate as the receiver’s knee went down just shy of the goal line.

The touchdown was nullified, the last 10 seconds were run off the clock and the Falcons survived as the NFC’s only unbeaten team.

New England moved up two spots to No. 3.

Green Bay jumped three positions to No. 4 after its 27-24 overtime win over the winless Cincinnati Bengals. The Packers

In the Boys Under-17 Singles the winner was Don H Averia. He beat Sayooj Ajayakumar for the crown, while the semifinali­sts were Sarvesh Raj Kumar and Emmanuelle J. Buenavidez.

In the Girls Under-13 Doubles Fiona Cabral and Mrudusha Mohandas beat Naesha Mehta and Aadhya Shine. The finalists had the better of Amrita Anaikumar, Neha Susan Biju, Yufei Lily and Aishwarya Sharma

In the Girls Under-17 Doubles Valli G. and SrishaVemp­arala beat Aditi Prabhu and Kiara Reaven. The runners-up were Hannah Binu, JelseyCara­ndang, Bhavya Kumar and NityasriTi­rpude

In the Girls Under-17 Singles category Tanisha Crasto got the better of Niyati Pradeep. They reached the finals by beating Saadhwi Krishna Shiral and Bhavya Kumar in the semifinals.

In the Boys Under-14 Doubles Samuel Sunil and KolethVaru­n Sriram beat Aidan Anesh Mathew Ajay and Abhilash Mathew. The semifinali­sts were Vimal P Jayakumar, Aditya Sreekumar, Ashwin Jayashanke­r and Jay M Shah.

In the Boys Under-14 Singles Himadeep Avs got the better of Varun Sriram. They earned a spot in the finals

open Week 4 when they host NFC North rival Chicago on Thursday night.

The Dallas Cowboys gained five places to No. 5.

Oakland, Denver and Detroit are in an unusual three-way tie at No. 6. The Raiders travel to the Mile High City on Sunday to face the Broncos in a big AFC West showdown.

Meanwhile, through three weeks, viewership for national telecasts of NFL games is down 11 percent this season compared to 2016, the Nielsen company said on Tuesday.

Nielsen said the games averaged 17.63 million viewers for the first three weeks of last season, and have dipped to 15.65 million this year. The Nielsen figures don’t include many of the Sunday afternoon games that are shown to a regional audience, but not a national one.

Meanwhile, Round One of the new ideologica­l battle on cable television news went to Hannity, who has moved to a time slot directly competing with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. Nielsen said Hannity had 3.27 million viewers on Monday, compared to 2.66 million for Maddow. CNN, which showed a special health care debate at the same hour, had 1.45 million viewers.
