US Embassy hosts reception for cultural exchange grads

The Embassy of the United States of America in Kuwait organized a reception ceremony for the graduates from the cultural exchange program in the presence of the US Ambassador to Kuwait Lawrence R. Silverman.

Ambassador Silverman said this is the first reception ceremony to be organized by the embassy for the graduates of the exchange program’.

He revealed that the program has a huge list of alumni including former British prime ministers Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair

and Gordon Brown.

The cultural and other exchange programs have been administer­ed for more than 50 years by the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educationa­l and Cultural Affairs (ECA) with the aim of cultivatin­g mutual understand­ing between the people of the United States and the people of other countries through means of educationa­l and cultural exchange that assist in the developmen­t of peaceful relations. This exchange program helps youths, students, educators, artistes, athletes, and rising leaders in the United States and more than 160 other countries.

The ECA exchange program alumni encompass over one million people around the world, including more than 75 Nobel Laureates and nearly 565 current and former heads of state and government.

In addition to exchange programs, ECA also administer­s a variety of other initiative­s that support cultural understand­ing and protect cultural heritage across the globe, and provide educationa­l resources for people interested in learning about American culture and English language.
