Panels meet to track irregularities
Teaching citizens to be self-sufficient
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 30: Four parliamentary committees – Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Petitions and Complaints, Investigation of Violations of Ministry of Health, and Youth and Sports held their meetings on September 28, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The committee investigating the irregularities of Ministry of Health held discussions with six former top officials of Ministry of Health concerning some irregularities recorded during their tenure, in accordance with the mandate given to the committee by the parliament.
The committee will investigate former minister of Health Dr Ali Al-Obeidi, former undersecretary of Ministry of Health Dr Khalid Al-Sahlawi, former head of the Health Office in Frankfurt Dr Sulaiman Al-Harbash, former head of the Health Office in Washington Dr Khalid Al-Abdul Ghani, former head of the Health Office in London Dr Yaqoub Al-Tamar, and former director of Public Relations in Ministry of Health Faisal Al-Dousari.
In another meeting, the parliamentary committee for Youth and Sports Affairs was expected to adopt a draft law on sport as well as study a draft law on the establishment of Kuwait Anti-Doping Authority, proposals on laws related to sports bodies and the law on regulating some aspects of the Kuwait Olympic Committee, sports federations and clubs and privatization and professionalism.
The meeting of the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Committee was aimed at discussing the investigation of agricultural concessions granted by the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources which referred to the committee by the parliament.
The Petitions and Complaints Committee in its meeting was to discuss a number of complaints in the presence of Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education or his representative.
Meanwhile, the Manpower and Government Restructuring Program (MGRP) has reached an agreement with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor to allot one society development hall in each governorate for teaching citizens to make crafts with the help of instructors from the Public Authority of Applied Education and Training (PAAET), reports Al-Rai daily quoting Secretary General of MGRP Fawzi Al-Majdali.
Al-Majdali disclosed the project is aimed at raising awareness of citizens on the importance of hand-craft in order to lessen dependence on expatriate workers, ease their financial burdens and lighten the load of the State’s economy as part of efforts to reform the lopsided demographic structure.
He said the training courses will continue for three months covering the six governorates, indicating the courses will include morning lectures from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon while the afternoon sessions will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
