$2,500 bank guarantee issue yet to be decided upon: envoy
Move to hire Indian maids
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 30: The Ambassador of India to Kuwait HE Sunil Jain said the issue of bank guarantee of $2,500, equivalent to KD 720 for employing an Indian woman domestic servant by the prospective sponsors has yet to be decided upon, reports Al-Jarida daily.
He indicated consultations are continuing between the two sides – the government of India and the government of Kuwait — to find an alternative mechanism to guarantee the rights of these workers.
The daily quoting the ambassador said, “The embassy has another vision for this guarantee, which will be discussed soon with the Kuwaiti side through a different mechanism that will protect the rights of its community and protect it from ‘some’ Kuwaiti sponsors and not ‘all’ who do not pay their monthly salaries or beat them and use violence against them.”
The ambassador stressed on the depth of relations with Kuwait would facilitate the adoption of a decision in the interest of both countries.
He indicated a meeting will be held soon with the government authorized company for the recruitment of domestic workers to discuss the recruitment of Indian labor under uncomplicated controls.
The Ministry of Interior recently revealed that the General Department of Residence Affairs has worked to lift the ban on the recruitment of Indian workers after agreeing to cancel the bank guarantee required by the Indian embassy and to recruit them as was the case in the past.
