Activation of PARLT’s role will help solve traffic problem: MP
‘Need regular maintenance and paving of main roads’
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 1: The traffic problem remains unsolved because the concerned officials have yet to learn from past experiences, says MP Mohammed Al-Huwailah.
He believes there is a golden opportunity to address this perennial problem by activating the role of the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport (PARLT).
He said the authority must present plausible solutions and innovative ideas, in addition to rectifying errors in the old planning of roads which can no longer accommodate the growing population.
He cited the situation in Mangaf roundabout, which necessitates additional entrance and exit points to ease traffic movement, as proof that past solutions were ineffective.
He called for regular maintenance and paving of main roads, particularly in Ahmadi and Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorates, to be on par with international standards. He said that poor maintenance and lack of road planning in the two governorates entail thorough review of their infrastructure and then the necessary steps must be taken such as replacement of some traffic signs which cause congestions along roundabouts and bridges, as well as the expansion of several major roads.
Survey
He added the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport must form a team which will be tasked to conduct a road survey. He said another team must be formed to study the road networks in Ahmadi and Mubarak Al-Kabeer in order to identify defects and put in place an effective maintenance program.
Meanwhile, MP Riyadh Al-Adsani stressed the importance of the role played by cooperative societies as the “first line of defense” in controlling prices and organizing activities in the interest of shareholders and residents in the areas where they are operating.
Speaking on the sideline of Nuzha Cooperative Society’s honoring ceremony for outstanding students; Al-Adsani urged the Ministry of Social Affairs to closely monitor the cooperative societies, take action against those proven to have violated regulations, and facilitate procedures for the shareholders and residents.
MP Omar Al-Tabtabaei, who also attended the ceremony, thanked the board of directors of the cooperative for their commitment to honor outstanding students.
Excelling
Board Chairman of the cooperative Wael Al-Qatami affirmed that the board is keen on holding the ceremony annually to motivate the students to continue excelling in school. He disclosed a total of 268 students in various academic levels, including those enrolled in special needs schools, were honored this year.
On the activities of the coop-
erative, Al-Qatami said some projects will be completed soon, such as expansion of the supply and wholesale branch, expansion of branch three (600 sq mtrs), and allocation of three shops for small enterprises which will open in November.
Deputy Board Chairman Haitham Al-Awadh added the cooperative is closely following up the central market expansion project, utilization of side areas and construction of another building.
Al-Awadh also congratulated the outstanding students and their parents. He wished a bright future for the students and urged them to continue excelling in their endeavors to better serve the homeland.
