‘Vague warnings embolden N. Korea, Iran’

‘Tensions mount in vital regions’

- — Compiled by Zaki Taleb

“DURING the era of former US president George W. Bush Jr, the United States branded North Korea, Iraq and Iran as the ‘Axis of Evil’,” columnist Mohammad Hazza’a Al-Mutairi wrote for Al-Qabas daily.

“The then president (Bush) was able to remove only one country from his classification of Axis of Evil after it invaded and overthrew the former defunct regime, Iraq. Observers considered that America succeeded in defeating one of the countries of this axis, and Iraq was elevated in its ranks, leaving only North Korea and Iran of this classification.

“In the wake of this development, the observers said the US had managed to defeat one of the ‘Axis of Evil’ and that was Iraq and the latter became pro US and this means that North Korea and Iran continue to be classified as the ‘Axis of Evil’.

“Speaking of North Korea, Pyongyang is threatening to strike the western shores of the United States, threatening to sink Japan, destroy its southern neighbor South Korea and even strengthen its power more than before.

“Iran, too, was able to exploit the two terms of former president Barrack Obama and his desire to improve Washington’s ties with Tehran at the expense of traditional US allies in the Gulf.

“Hence, Tehran exploited the nuclear deal concluded between Iran and the G-5+1 nations and it appears the deal imposed no restrictions on the Iranian missile program, and as such Tehran managed to achieve a lot of benefits during the reign of Obama, more than any other country.

“Today, the current US administration is refusing to turn a blind eye to the remaining files of the Axis of Evil (North Korea and Iran), which has negatively affected vital regions of the world such as the oil-rich Gulf region, which supplies the world with one-third of its energy needs and the East Asia economic and industrial region which is the largest importer of crude oil.

“It is needless to say such accumulated negative reflections on the relevant countries, could be attributed to a delay that was shown by the consecutive US administrations in general and Obama administration in particular to handle various issues throughout the world.

“Such being the case, we have observed that many vital regions throughout the world are currently suffering from persistent tension and this can be mostly attributed to missile threats coming from North Korea and Iran who have been testing their missiles from time to time to send a message to the world about the effectiveness of these missiles and the ability of the two nations (North Korea and Iran) to strike any near or far objective at any time.

“The continued state of security instability in the Gulf and East Asia is the responsibility of America, which now has only the occasional warning and the subsequent imposition of sanctions on the remaining Axis of Evil, which has proven to be ineffective on the ground.

“In conclusion, we would like to point out that the US must be held responsible for persistent instability in the Gulf and East Asia regions because Washington has not actually taken any action to remedy the situation except for issuing some vague warnings to the two remaining ‘Axis of Evil’ countries and sometimes imposing some sanctions but the warnings and sanctions have proven to be futile.”

“The German Iron woman Angela Merkel managed to win the fourth term as Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany,” columnist Abdulmohsen Mohammad Al-Husseini wrote for Al-Anba daily.

“This is a record consecutive four-term victory for Merkel, a victory which was earlier achieved only by the former German chancellor Konrad Adenauer, the architect of rebuilding Germany after the World War II and former chancellor Helmut Kohl who reunited Germany.

“However, Merkel won the elections without her government attempting to persuade the Germans to re-elect her, rather she depended on the Democratic Christian Union Party where the electorate thronged the polling booths to cast their ballots and this reflected the keenness of the voters to reward her for her wise policy for efficiently leading her country into development and democratic march.

“Meanwhile, on the other side we praise the role of Merkel for showing humanitarian concern to the Syrian immigrants who were reluctant to leave their country to escape the war. Not just that, she adopted distinguished attitudes in dealing with various Arab issues in the international forums.

“In this context, we refer to a statement which is attributed to her in which she said, ‘the population of India, for instance, is more than one billion embracing so many religions which exceed more than one thousand in addition to various sects, but the Arabs whose population is just one hundred million, embracing one religion, constituting one people and speaking one language, are at loggerheads, but when it comes carrying out terrorist operations, they shout ‘Allah-O-Akbar’ (God is the Greatest).

“This German leader who has won the confidence of her people, without exploiting her position as the chancellor to use the government institutions to serve her election campaign as it happens in our Arab countries where some Arab presidents delay the elections dictated by their own interests and every Arab president has the habit of putting pressure on the citizens to re-elect him to a new presidential term by appointing his supporters in leading government positions.

“Not just that, some Arab presidents exploit the needy people by distributing them foodstuffs and bribing them with money during election campaigns to get re-elected.

“However, in spite of such undemocratic practices, these Arab leaders boast about democracy and development projects although none of them had actually been realized.

“Apart from the above, some Arab presidents prior to the elections re-distribute election constituencies to guarantee victory for his supporters during Parliament and Municipal Council elections, while others fabricate conflicts with the opposition to keep the public busy and eventually guarantee victory for the supporters of the president.”

“The campaign that has been directed against Mr Saleh Al-Fadalah, holding him responsible for the issue of the status of bedoun, particularly after one of them recently attempted to commit suicide is illogical and unjust,” columnist Abdullatif Al-Duaij wrote for Al-Qabas daily.

“The problem of bedoun was not created by Al-Fadalah, but was created by the authorities at the end of the 1960s and reinforced by the political naturalization that followed.

“He is not guilty for having to deal with an existing crisis, which he did not create and did not seek. He is not responsible at all for the pain, deprivation and abuse of the bedoun.

“All this is the responsibility and the result of the decisions and policies taken by state institutions, and primarily the primitive society.

“The problem of the bedoun is not the deprivation of nationality, but the persecution and abuse that they are subjected to in the hope that they will ‘show’ their hidden nationalities, as some believe.

“We must know that the person who hid his nationality has died, and he and the influential people are responsible for his children and perhaps grandchildren who are currently considered without affiliation and no homeland other than Kuwait.”

“Muslims have been observing atrocious acts perpetrated against the Burmese Muslims, and the situation remains unchanged, columnist Mohammad Ghareeb Hatem wrote for Al-Qabas daily.

“I spoke to some Burmese Muslims working at shops in Makkah, and they said “we don’t have a homeland”. I asked why and they replied “whenever a Muslim leaves Burma in search of a job, he is forbidden to return”. The world is blessed with new channels of communication by which we can see the level of atrocities perpetrated against Burmese Muslims who are burnt at the stake along with their houses, while thousands of them have fled to Bangladesh for safety.

“I wonder why the Islamic countries with one billion Muslims are silent about the affliction of their brothers! Where are those raising Islamic slogans and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation? Are there no Muslim correspondents to convey the tragic news of the Burmese Muslims to the world in this 21st century of the so-called civilized world?

“Children are being killed, maimed and slaughtered by the same people burning their villages. Unfortunately, there’s no response— even as they scream for help. I urge the Islamic groups and their sheikhs who send us videos about religious issues each day to send videos about donations they have collected in support of our Burmese Muslim brothers and with status update.

“Where is DAESH, Al-Qaeda and the other extremist militant groups? I’m sure they’re busy slaughtering and maiming their own Muslim brothers. We have the option of cutting relations with Burma to protest against the persecution of our Muslims brothers. We should suspend commercial exchange until the prosecution of Muslims in the country stops”.

“In the recent times, many voices have been calling for the amendment of the demographic imbalance in Kuwait”, Dr Nabeel Al-Khader wrote for Al-Shahed daily.

“The competition between citizens and residents for the available services especially health services has become clear to the public. A large number of political analysts have taken up this cause, making it their main concern and not refraining from attacking even a single expatriate.

It seems they have forgotten that the main reason behind this problem or the main one responsible for the imbalance in the demographic structure is the government, or to be precise, some officials within the government who failed to strictly apply the laws over the years. Some of them were part of the corruption network which includes visa traders.

Bad planning by former officials, lack of clear vision and effective strategy as well as opening the door for residencies were the main reasons for this problem to become aggravated. Normally, the population increase among expatriates and citizens is expected considering the state’s expansion trend and increasing number of housing cities. However, it is strange that everything is being increased except the services offered by the government to the people of Kuwait.”
