Kuwait’s Al-Sahli sets forth plan to upgrade AIPS Asia chapter
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 2, (KUNA): Kuwaiti candidate for the presidency of the continental wing of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Sattam Al-Sahli said he plans to overcome the obstacles that faced the body over the last two years.
“We will work for promoting the activities of the association and launching a headquarters for its Asia wing on par with other continental organizations,” he said in statements to KUNA of Monday.
“We also aim to secure sustainable funding for the annual budget of the AIPS offices through the contributions of the members and sponsoring companies,” he pointed out.
Al-Sahli noted that if his bid for the chair of the continental chapter of the association was successful, he would upgrade the statutes of this chapter and provide it with a webpage featuring essential information and a calendar of all annual activities and sports events.
He added that he would help the members through organizing workshops and training courses to build the capacity of young reporters in collaboration with the competent international organizations.
The 20th AIPS Asia Congress is going to take place in Islamabad, capital of Pakistan, on Oct 5-8 to elect new office bearers.
Many national sports press associations in Asia stated their support to the Kuwaiti candidate against Amjad Aziz Malik - president of Pakistan Sports Writers Federation, in the elections to be held on Friday, October 6.
