‘Shadadiya University project 80% complete’
2nd scientific confab launched
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 2: Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Muhammad Al-Fares recently talked about a number of important files, including the ministry’s achievements and the obstacles it is currently facing, reports Al-Rai daily,
Al-Fares disclosed that about 80 percent of the Shadadiya University project has been completed, indicating the Faculty of Engineering will be the first to be handed over while the main campus will be ready by the end of 2019. He said several contractors and subcontractors are involved in the project.
He also revealed that Shadadiya University can accommodate 50,000 students, affirming the Kuwait University is currently putting in place necessary plans to transfer to the new campus once asked to do so. He said the new campus consists of two parts — one for male students and another for female students.
About the alleged compulsory transfer of a number of teachers to Sabah Al-Ahmad schools, Al-Fares said he has coordinated with the Civil Service Commission (CSC) to grant these teachers KD 120 per month as remote area allowance and provide them with certain services such as the allocation of eight buses for the transportation of teachers and administrative employees.
He also assured the PhD and master’s degree holders that there will be no deduction from their allowances even if they occupy positions which do not match their qualifications. He was quick to explain though that they have to be employed in relevant positions for the State to benefit from their specializations and qualifications.
In addition, he admitted that the rationalization measures have had a negative impact on the ministry; clarifying he is for rationalization but the educational process should not be affected negatively. He stressed the need to target extravagant celebrations and luxury vehicles when taking rationalization measures.
He continued to explain that the World Bank is just a means to achieve goals, indicating the bank nominates international consultants in some fields and then Kuwait verifies the capabilities of each consultant to determine if their services are beneficial to the country.
Meanwhile, Director of Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) Dr Ahmad Al-Atari declared the launch of the second scientific conference titled “Reality of Arab Sports between Practice and Competition” under the patronage of Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohammad Al-Fares.
According to a press release, the conference will be held at the Millennium Hotel on Oct 29-30.
