Meanwhile, the Environment Public Authority (EPA) has unveiled its plan to grant judicial arrest authority to the staff of Kuwait Municipality following the formation of joint teams which will be tasked to uncover violations in Spring camping sites, reports Al-Rai daily.

Director-General of the Municipality Eng Ahmad AlManfouhi warned that anyone who sets up Spring camps without obtaining approval and license from the Municipality shall be fined KD 5,000.

Assistant Undersecretary for Commercial Monitoring and Consumer Protection at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Eid Al-Rashidi disclosed that emergency teams in the first half of 2017 issued 369 violations related to commercial fraud, most of which involved falsification of the country of origin of products, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Violations

The violations covered foodstuffs, makeup, perfumes, electrical appliances and clothing, he added, noting the ministry is all set to amend laws to intensify the penalty for the offense in order to fight commercial fraud.

He pointed out that traders in question implement advanced methods to cheat consumers and the situation necessitates training courses for inspectors to guide them on the latest methods of cheating.

Al-Rashidi stressed the ministry has highly-proficient inspectors who conduct regular tour of the stores to check the quality of commodities. He also said the ministry takes seriously all complaints filed at the 21 centers that deal with issues in different parts of Kuwait, indicating the sector also receives complaints 24/7 via hotline 135.
