‘Kuwait keen on joining anti-graft efforts on domestic, global scale’

CAIRO, Oct 3, (KUNA): Kuwait is keen on joining efforts and coordination in fighting corruption on domestic and global scales, said an official Monday.
“The State of Kuwait was and still is adamant in developing its legislations and monitoring tools in terms of fighting and preventing corruption,” said Counsellor Abdurrahman Al-Nemash, Chairman of Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority.

His remarks came before the sixth Assembly of Parties to the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) that is held from October 2-4 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The meeting will discuss developing the academy’s work plan for the upcoming years.
On training, Al-Nemash said the IACA had always been ardent to hone its staff skills through incorporating them in courses at pioneering regional and international anti-corruption organizations. Established in 2011, the IACA continuously organizes training courses in fighting corruption, including preventing money laundering and smuggling.
Kuwait will be the first Arab country to host IACA’s third regional training course for the Middle East next December. The first training course was held in Argentina in 2015, while the second was in Uganda in 2016.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has started taking precautionary measures to prevent cheating in the first semester final exams of secondary stage students slated for Dec 25, 2017 to Jan 8, 2018, reports Al-Rai daily.
A source disclosed that Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Muhammad Al-Fares recommended strict regulations to prevent cheating in exams.
The source explained the exams for the first and second semesters of this academic year will be different from the past, indicating the number of students with failing marks in literary and scientific subjects might be higher compared to previous years.
Meanwhile, the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) approved the request of the Ministry of Education to float a tender to supply meals for boy scouts in the six educational districts and Marine Boy Scout Club at a total cost of KD 82, 000.
Assistant Secretary General of CAPT Huda Al-Essa confirmed that the tender has been settled for six companies’ three of which offered KD 11,067; KD 13,950 and KD 16,089; while the decision concerning the three remaining companies has been postponed for two weeks — until renewal of the bank guarantee. She added these companies will supply meals from Oct 24, 2017 to May 10, 2018.
