Iran to free Kuwaiti traveller soon: report
Al-Azmi lost way, under interrogation
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 3: Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs intensified efforts and communications with its counterparts in Iran and relevant bodies through the Kuwaiti Embassy in Tehran after receiving information about a Kuwaiti explorer Faleh Jama’an Al-Azmi arrested in Iran.
Al-Jarallah stressed that communications are underway with the Iranian side and the ministry has facilitated resources to determine the circumstances of Al-Azmi’s arrest and to ensure his prompt release, adding the detainee is currently under investigation in Iran.
He explained that Al-Azmi was arrested by the Iranian security authorities after losing his way and mistakenly entering a military zone in Iran.
He said the ministry received assurance from their counterparts in Iran with regard to Al-Azmi’s release, and that his arrest was merely procedural and he’ll be set free once the process is complete.
The latest news updates of Al-Azmi were posted last Monday while he was crossing into Iran with his car at the Turkish-Iranian borders, and initial information suggests he was arrested by the Iranian authorities.
Al-Azmi had posted on his Instagram account a report about his trip and the countries he has visited since he started the expedition on June 28 from Norway, and said he was looking forward to arrive in Kuwait next Wednesday October 4.
Among the countries he passed through on in his trip were Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Czech, Poland, Slovakia, Austria, Switzerland, France and Britain. He started his return trip to Kuwait from France, Turkey, Georgia and again Turkey before entering Iran, where he was arrested.
