Youths must be tied to economy: minister
‘Be vigilant to disasters’
The 12th Board’s meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry of State for Youth
Affairs. KUWAIT CITY, Oct 8, (KUNA): Chairman of the Youth Public Authority, Minister of Commerce and Industry and Acting Minister of Youth Affairs Khaled Al-Roudhan on Sunday affirmed the importance of linking Kuwaiti youth to the economy by improving the business environment and encouraging them to enter the private sector and develop projects and programs in order to enhance the developmental economic aspect of this important sector.
Al-Roudhan said in a press statement on the occasion of the 12th Board’s meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs, that it is necessary to focus on strengthening the identity of the young Kuwaiti to form a youth, leading, national and an economic figure by linking the youth’s special strategies with economy, and encourage them to engage in entrepreneurship.
He stressed the importance of concerted efforts and institutions concerned with youth through providing them with distinctive services.
Al-Roudhan said that the meeting adopted the draft budget of the Public Authority for Youth for the fiscal year 2018/2019 prior to its referal to the regulatory authorities, adding that the meeting approved the regulations of investment facilities for youth centers.
For his part, Director General of the Youth Public Authority Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi said that the Authority is keen to keep abreast of all developments in terms of youth work to empower them in all areas related to youth, which include cultural, artistic, sports, economic, entrepreneurship, volunteerism and other fields.
Meanwhile, Environment Public Authority (EPA) chief Sheikh Abdullah Ahmad Al-Homoud Al-Sabah stressed the importance of enhancing the concept of disaster risk awareness to achieve sustainable development.
“Disaster mitigation, prevention and preparedness measures, are necessary in the light of the latest developments in the international arena,” said the EPA Board Chairman and DirectorGeneral.
He made the remarks in his opening speech on Sunday at a workshop, entitled “Disaster Risk Reduction,” on the occasion of the International Day for Disaster Reduction.
He underlined the importance of cooperation between the EPA and the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, which he said would aim to help the society to reduce the risks of disasters.
For his part, Deputy Chairman of Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Anwar Al-Hasawi said that the subject of disaster risk reduction is receiving great attention at the global level.
