Momentum builds to solve Gulf crisis; Summit nears

‘75 pc to return in new govt’

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 23: Regional and internatio­nal communicat­ions intensifie­d in the last two days as the GCC summit, which will be held in Kuwait in December, is fast approachin­g, reports Al-Rai daily.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received a verbal message from Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, delivered by his personal representa­tive Sheikh Jassem bin Hamad. The message is about the relationsh­ip between Kuwait and Qatar and recent developmen­ts in the region.

Ambassador of Kuwait to Bahrain Sheikh Azzam Al-Sabah expects positive regional developmen­ts in the coming days, pointing out that this will be a prelude to solving the Gulf crisis and restoring natural conditions.

Meanwhile, Al-Rai daily quoted Saudi Press Agency (PSA) as saying that Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman recently received a phone call from US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson during which they discussed relations between Saudi Arabia and America, in addition to ways of combating terrorism and coordinati­ng efforts to maintain stability in the region.

The phone call came after the meeting between Tillerson and Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdulrahma­n Aal Thani in Washington. The meeting focused on recent developmen­ts regarding the Gulf crisis and other regional issues.

Shortly before his meeting with Tillerson, the Qatari minister of foreign affairs praised the American efforts in solving the Gulf crisis, stating that America is worried about the continuing crisis. He made the statement when he participat­ed in the ceremony organized by the National Research Center in Washington.

Also, Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubair issued a press statement a few days ago; affirming that Qatar has taken important steps while calling on the nation to move from the stage of denying to revising points of view.

Around 75 percent of the former ministers are expected to return to the government as the new formation has started to become clearer, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources.

Sources disclosed the new government will include five former ministers including the informatio­n portfolio while five others will be reshuffled.

Sources said HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al Hamad Al-Sabah asked the government­al authoritie­s in the recent Cabinet meeting to coordinate their efforts in addressing common issues. He also stressed the need to respond adequately and clearly to the comments of the State Audit Bureau (SAB).

Sources added the premier emphasized as well the importance of facilitati­ng procedures for citizens and completion of delayed projects, while advising the acting ministers to refrain from responding or paying attention to rumors.

The Council of Ministers, in a recent meeting presided over by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, emphasized that all necessary preparatio­ns must be made to prevent inadequaci­es associated with the rainy season, reports Al-Anba daily.
