Media, Tech and Communication Forum concludes
‘Widen scope of legal knowledge on electronic dealing’
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 23: The Second Media, Technology and Communication Forum held its closing ceremony on its second day at JW Marriott Hotel under the auspices of acting Information Minister and State Minister for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdallah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah.
Information technology and social media consultant Roland Abu Najm, Private Law lecturer at Kuwait University’s College of Law Dr Fayez Al-Kandari, lawyer and legal researcher Attorney Hussein Al-Abdullah and modern technology expert Dr Mu’taz Koukish presided over the sessions in the forum.
Abu Najm lectured on “how to create your image on the Internet,” urging the audience to understand various social communication platforms and how to communicate with users of each platform. He stressed the importance of establishing and sharing contents, and knowing how to deal with negative comments and respond to them.
Al-Kandari and Al-Abdullah chaired the session on “how to protect yourself.” They insisted that individuals should widen the scope of their legal knowledge on electronic dealing, indicating that such knowledge is found in the Cyber Crime and Audio Visual laws, among others which regulate electronic interactions.
They pointed out that majority of the crimes committed in this aspect are related to blackmail and threat, while hacking of user accounts is categorized as invasion of privacy which equates to someone breaking into a house to steal or commit any other crime.
Koukish presented a lecture on “how to achieve your persona,” indicating that most account hacking operations are caused by two issues — one is the fact that most famous people do not operate or control their own user accounts and they employ someone to do it. This leads to successful hacking operations when the two find themselves in a dispute and the account is used as a tool to pressure the other on a certain issue.

portant as it is done through sending a link that once clicked by the target, it enables the hacker to take control over sensitive or private contents from the user account.
The event was held in conjunction with various relevant organizations in Kuwait and it will end on Thursday.
Participants include a group of senior officials in technology and communication in the government and private sectors, a number of specialists and academicians, and producers or investors in communication industry, technology and media in local and international levels.
The forum is aimed at studying the role of technology in the growth and development of government and private institutions; and the impact of technological revolution on changing the foundations, concepts and tools of many other industries, as well as to regulate the means of technology that work online and establish professional and legislative bases and rules for their work between media and communication and their impact on other sectors.
The forum seeks to present outputs, views and recommendations that will help employees in different media sectors — government, private or individual institutions – understand and develop interrelationship between media and technology.
