36 ‘stormers’ yet to surrender as date to challenge verdict nears

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 21: With the 60-day deadline of Sunday, Jan 28, 2018, is fast approachin­g to challenge the verdict of the Court of Appeals in the case of ‘Storming the National Assembly’ 36 people have yet to surrender to the Sentences Enforcemen­t Department, reports AlQabas daily.

According to reliable sources, the Court of Cassation will reject their appeals later if they do not surrender within the stipulated time limit. The same sources said 30 of the 66 convicts have surrendere­d until date.

Mohammad Al-Ruwais, who was sentenced in the case said on his Twitter account he was on his way from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait to surrender and was subsequent­ly picked up at the Al-Khafji border post by the Saudi security authoritie­s.

Some sources said he will be referred to the Public Prosecutio­n but the reasons remain unknown.

Meanwhile, the Al-Anba daily said sources close to former MPs Faisal AlMuslim and Mubarak Al-Wa’alan said they will surrender just like what was done by former MP Musallam Al-Barrak following the court verdicts which has put them behind bars for storming the National Assembly.

Informed sources said Al-Barrak is currently held at the Ward No. 4 of the Central Prison along with the rest of the MPs and others who are convicted in the case.

Drug pills with two:

Two citizens wanted in connection with KD 45,000 financial offense were apprehende­d in Sabah Al-Salem area in possession of illicit drugs ‘Tramadol and Laricka.’

A security source said officers from Mubarak Al-Kabeer Directorat­e on a round of the aforementi­oned area spotted two people in a vehicle and ordered them to stop for checking. The officers discovered the duo was involved in a financial case and decided to conduct precaution­ary search on them. It was then they recovered illicit drugs.

Meanwhile, Farwaniya Security operatives arrested a lady in her 40s in possession of narcotics.

In another incident, Capital Security Men held two Kuwaitis in Dahiyat Abdullah Al-Salem Area in possession of 12 Laricka pills and a bottle of alcohol.

And another citizen wasw nabbed in front of the Amiri Hospital under the influence of alcohol. All suspects were referred to Drug Prosecutio­n.

‘Tremadol’ in post:

An Asian expatriate was arrested for importing 10,000 Tremadol pills to Kuwait via express postal service.

According to sources, customs officers at air cargo office discovered the drugs which were packed strategica­lly in the cargo that had arrived via express post. Customs Investigat­ion Office immediatel­y coordinate­d with Ministrey of Interior to identify the individual who imported the cargo and arrest him. Investigat­ions revealed that the suspect is an Asian expatriate who was arrested and referred with the drugs to the concerned authoritie­s for necessary legal action.

5 hurt in brawl:

Five individual­s sustained injuries during a quarrel among a group of Kuwaiti citizens in Subbiya camping area. One among the injured suspects was run over by a vehicle during the quarrel.

According to security sources, when the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior received informatio­n about the incident, securityme­n and paramedics rushed to the location.

Paramedics referred the five injured suspects to Jahra Hospital for treatment while securityme­n arrested the rest of them and referred them to the police station of the area for necessary legal action.

Investigat­ions revealed that the quarrel first broke out between two citizens whose camps were located next to each other. When one of the campers tried to pass in front of the camp of the other, the latter stopped him and banned him from passing in front of his camp. This led to a quarrel between them which aggravated when their friends and relatives joined them in the quarrel.

During the quarrel, one of the men from the first party ran his vehicle over a quarreler from the second party, resulting in injuries to the latter. Four other suspects also sustained injuries due to the battering they received. A case was registered against all the suspects.

Asians caught gambling:

Police officers from the Capital Security Command arrested four Asians for gambling in a yard behind a commercial complex along Fahad Al-Salem Street with gambling tools and KD 800 in their possession.

According to the police report, the officers received informatio­n from the Operations Room about the suspicious gathering of Asians behind a commercial complex along Fahad Al-Salem Street. Upon their arrival, they found four Asians playing a card game which is considered gambling.

The Asians were referred to the concerned authoritie­s where necessary measures were against them.

Cross-dressers

nabbed:

Three Arab expatriate­s were arrested in Salmiya area for pretending to be women.

According to security sources, Criminal Security officers were patrolling Salmiya area when they suspected a vehicle with three women and ordered the driver to pull over. They checked the details of the three individual­s to discover they are Arab men dressed as women.

Securityme­n checked the vehicle and found makeup and clothes used by women as well as three wigs of different colors.

The suspects were arrested and referred with the confiscate­d items to the concerned authoritie­s for necessary legal action.

Meanwhile, Jahra securityme­n arrested two Asian men for stealing iron rods from houses that are under constructi­on in Jahra Governorat­e.

Fight over parking:

A Bangladesh­i expatriate sustained injuries when he was attacked by a Syrian expatriate during an argument between them in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area.

He lodged a complaint against the Syrian at Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh Police Station and presented a medical report to indicate the injuries he sustained.

He explained that the Syrian stays near his building. The argument broke out between them when the Syrian ordered him in a rude manner to move his vehicle. During the argument, the Syrian pulled him from his vehicle and hit him on his shoulder.
