Kuwait expert visits KES
A photo from the event Kuwait English School was honoured by a visit from Dr Farah Al-Nakib on Sunday 11th February who gave a presentation on the history of Kuwait to students in Year 8.
February celebrates National Day and Liberation Day and so this was a very appropriate time for Dr AlNakib’s presentation. In addition the Social Studies Department focuses on Kuwait history during Year 7 and 8 lessons.
After our guest speaker and Kuwait expert presented a brief history of Kuwait the discussions were then opened to student-questions, giving everyone an opportunity to share their insights on the topics discussed.
Dr Farah Al-Nakib is Associate Professor of History and Director of the Center for Gulf Studies at the American University of Kuwait.
She received her PhD (2011) and MA (2006) in history from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London.
Her research primarily focuses on the urban history of Kuwait City before and after oil, on which she has written her first book, Kuwait Transformed: A History of Oil and Urban Life (Stanford University Press, 2016).
Her current research focuses on collective memory and forgetting in relation to modernity in Kuwait, and on the 1990-91 Iraqi invasion and occupation of Kuwait.
