National and Liberation days activities
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 18: Qatar is participating in the ongoing Gulf Popular Heritage Festival at the Sabah Al-Ahmad Heritage Village in Kuwait, says Gulf Times.
The festival, which entails a plethora of contests and activities, is designed to illustrate Kuwait’s profound maritime heritage and coincides with the launch of Kuwait’s National Days celebration. The activities and competitions of the festival are hosted in the village with extensive participation of Kuwaiti and Gulf contestants.
The Qatari pavilion supervised by the Centre for Cultural and Heritage Events at the Ministry of Culture and Sports alongside several other ministry departments underlines the importance of the Kuwaiti festival in reviving the Gulf heritage and fortifying mutual ties between the two countries.
Ahmed Jassim al-Kuwari, Director of the Department of Culture and Arts at the Ministry of Culture and Sports, and head of the Qatari delegation told Qatar News Agency (QNA) said the activities of the Qatari pavilion kicked off Friday evening after the opening ceremony by Mohamed Dhaifallah Sharar, Adviser of HH the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Advisor Sharar praised the pavilion and its activities.
Qatar is participating in more than 20 activities embodying different aspects of the life in Qatari society and its customs and traditions, the head of the Qatari delegation added.
He also said his country is participating in the activities of the festival to shed light on the elements of its ancient heritage and the great convergence of customs and traditions in the Gulf region, while presenting different aspects of the rich Qatari heritage.
Al-Kuwari noted the Qatari pavilion includes numerous heritage events, the most prominent of which is the Majlis corner that showcases Qatari hospitality — coffee and dates, as well as popular dishes served at the coffee corner. Visitors can also play Dama (a traditional board game of the region) at the pavilion, while enjoying a miniature museum of Qatari fishing and diving tools.
