Cabinet has decided to form Private Universities Council

KU to promote professors

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 19: The Cabinet issued a decision on the formation of the Private Universities Council, reports Al-Anba daily.

Article One of the decision states that the council’s tenure will be three years and it will be presided by the minister of Higher Education while the members are as follows:

1. Ministry of Higher Education Undersecretary Dr Subaih Al-Makhazim

2. Secretary General of the Private Universities Council Secretariat General Professor Dr Habib Abol

3. Ministry of Commerce and Industry Undersecretary Dr Khalid Al-Fadheil

4. Faculty of Medicine Dean Professor Dr Adel Khedr Abdullah 5. Abdulwahab Al-Wazzan 6. Dr Rasheed Al-Hamad 7. Professor Dr Majid Al-Daihani 8. Dr Mishari Al-Hajri

The Supreme Council of Kuwait University recently discussed the promotion of professors and allocations for scholars, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources.

Sources disclosed the council decided to disburse the allocations for scholars in the relevant foreign currency in order to avoid any discrepancy due to the exchange rate.

The Admission and Registration Deanship at the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) will meet in March to prepare a comprehensive plan on the number of students who will be admitted in the next academic year, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources.

Sources explained this is in accordance with the instruction of Education and Higher Education Minister Dr Hamid Al-Azmi to prepare the plan in order to avoid the annual admission crisis, referring to the problems in the admission mechanism last year.

Source stressed the need to lay down such a plan to put a stop to the annual admission crisis, especially since a big number of students who enrolled in less than 10 academic units which prompted students to hold a sit-in led by the Students Union.

Sources also called on PAAET to increase the budget to accommodate the large number of students.
